During The All-American Rejects performance at the Fandom Party during San Diego Comic-Con, a Spider-Man cosplayer made an appearance on the stage. The identity of the masked hero was revealed to be Brandon Routh, who is currently promoting his new horror comedy film, Ick.

In Ick, Routh portrays Hank, a teacher who was once a star high school quarterback. However, his life turned upside down when he was injured, which led him to depression and staying in his hometown. Furthermore, the Ick is a living parasite that has infested the world, and it’s up to Hank to protect those he cares about.

“There are things that I go back still and I go, ‘Oh, I would have liked that scene back or I could have taken that meeting,'” Routh tells Nerd Reactor about how he relates to Hank in terms of regret. “I was worried. There are only a few roles that I didn’t take for fear of certain things. Ultimately, I think that had I done that, I was protected from some other greater thing that I didn’t see.”

One of Routh’s most popular roles was Superman in Superman Returns. With the hype surrounding the James Gunn-directed Superman, the actor praised the DCU film.

“I saw it the other day and I had a really wonderful time, Routh said. “I think it’s very exciting that Superman is back, and the energy of the movie is what I was hoping for. The love and appreciation for Superman, you can’t please everybody. I’ve done this. I have been down this road… Compared to Superman Returns, this is electronics and gadgets and technology. It’s a more sophisticated, sci-fi version of Superman. That is something we have never really seen before. And I think it was done in a great way.”

Ick and Superman are now available in theaters.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Krypto causing Superman a headache! Superman (2025) is the hardest project that director James Gunn has worked on. One of the challenges of adapting an iconic DC hero is making the god-like being a very human one. There have been wonderful adaptations that have captured the human side of Superman, and Gunn has delivered on that. Here is my take on the DC Studios film.

On James Gunn directing a Superman movie:

“Anything you can expect from a James Gunn Superhero film, you can expect that here in Superman.”

On favorite characters:

“Mr. Terrific, he’s a standout. And also Krypto. Krypto is one of my favorite characters in this movie.”

On Superman in general:

“This is probably the most human Superman I’ve seen in live-action.”

About Superman

Synopsis: When Superman is drawn into conflicts both abroad and at home, his actions to protect humankind are questioned, and his vulnerability allows tech billionaire and master deceiver Lex Luthor to leverage the opportunity to get Superman out of the way for good. Will the Daily Planet’s intrepid reporter Lois Lane, together with the aid of Metropolis’s other metahumans and Superman’s own four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help Superman before Luthor can completely destroy him?

The film follows Superman’s journey to reconcile his heritage as the Kryptonian Kal-El with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas, and his selfless determination to use his power for good as humanity’s protector. Guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned, he is the embodiment of truth, justice and a better tomorrow.

DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

The film stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Joining them are Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.

Warner Bros. Studios and DC have released the official trailer for Superman, giving viewers and fans a good look at the heart of the Man of Steel.

It starts off with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) asking as Clark Kent (David Corenswet) if he is okay with her interviewing him as Superman. The reporter grills him on the questions, and he’s upset at her because he just wants to save people and do good. It later cuts to all the mayhem and action, including a part where Lex Luthor and the Engineer infiltrate Superman’s Fortress of Solitude.

The trailer does a good job of capturing what Superman represents, and Corenswet isn’t taking the job lightly.

“I thought, ‘Well, how could it possibly get better than this?’” Corenswet tells Nerd Reactor about getting the part of Superman. “And then James brought together such a great crew of people and a cast of actors that I had the same experience of like how can it be this good and also on how it’s such an amazing film – something that’s going to be seen by so many people and it means so much to so many people.”

About Superman

DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn directs from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

The film stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies) as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (“Alien Romulus”), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) and Neva Howell (Greedy People).

Superman is executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther. Behind the camera, Gunn is joined by frequent collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with composer David Fleming (The Last of Us) and editors William Hoy (The Batman) and Craig Alpert (Deadpool 2, Blue Beetle).

Superman will be released in theaters nationwide on July 11, 2025, and internationally beginning 9 July 2025.

During the Superman Teaser Trailer Preview on Monday at Warner Bros. Studios, I had the chance to chat with David Corenswet, who is tasked with portraying the Man of Steel.

“It’s certainly ****ing crazy,” David Corenswet told me about his journey from Netflix’s Hollywood to DC Studios’ Superman. “I mean unexpected. Hard to believe still. Hollywood was such a great experience, like such a great crew and cast and everything.”

The actor knows how much the DC hero means to a lot of people, and he’s not taking his role lightly.

“I thought, ‘Well, how could it possibly get better than this?'” Corenswet continued. “And then James brought together such a great crew of people and a cast of actors that I had the same experience of like how can it be this good and also on how it’s such an amazing film – something that’s going to be seen by so many people and it means so much to so many people.”

Corenswet comes from a long line of actors who have portrayed the DC icon including George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill and more.

About Superman

Synopsis: Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien Romulus, Transformers: The Last Knight), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor, Firefly), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) and Neva Howell (Greedy People).

Superman is executive produced by Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther. Behind the camera, Gunn is joined by frequent collaborators, including director of photography Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky and composer John Murphy, along with editors Craig Alpert (Deadpool 2, Blue Beetle), Jason Ballantine (the IT films, The Flash) and William Hoy (The Batman).

Superman will be in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11, 2025, and internationally beginning 9 July 2025, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

DC and Warner Bros have released the official teaser trailer for Superman, marking a new era for DC Studios and its first film set in the DC Universe. It stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Superman is known as the Boy Scout with the motto of “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow,” and the new trailer gives us a taste of a more hopeful version as compared to the DCEU.

The teaser trailer gives us a lot of information, but the story is still vague. Aside from Superman, Lois and Lex, we see Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Jimmy Olsen, and more. We do know that there are threats, and there are people who love Superman and those who are protesting the Man of Steel himself. Also, the tribute to John Williams’ iconic theme is a nice touch.

The DC Universe currently has shows available including Creature Commandos and Peacemaker. After Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will debut in 2026.

The dawn of a new era is here for DC Studios with the release of the Superman teaser trailer. It has given us a good look at the many characters in the DC Universe by director James Gunn including Superman, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Krypto, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, and many more.

“I didn’t come in here to write a Superman movie and say, ‘Oh, I want to honor this and honor that and also be new and open to the fans,'” James Gunn said during the trailer event at Warner Bros. Studios on Monday. “Those are thoughts I had along the way of writing the script originally and along the path of making the movie. But for me, I wanted to tell a story that excited me and moved me and felt authentic.”

Superman is known for his motto including “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” and “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow.” Gunn wanted to capture the spirit of a good Superman in the film.

“But I knew that I wanted to have a Superman that stayed true to his origins of being the ultimate good guy. I think that it was a movie about kindness. It was a movie about being good. I remember talking to these guys [Corenswet, Broshnahan, Hoult] when we had our cast dinner the night before we started shooting or something like that, and at the end of the day, the world doesn’t always seem to have so much good in it. This movie has to truly be that, and for it to truly be that means that we had to be good to each other. We had to be good to the crew and then it had to be that authentically.”

David Corenswet portrays the Man of Steel, the iconic DC superhero who is a positive force in the world of the DC Universe.

“I think a lot of people consider Superman to be a naive character, or at least to have a naivety about him,” the actor said. “I think there’s an element of that but I think it really is just sort of a blindness to the little imperfections and the little conflicts – the silly little things that we get caught up with as people. I tend to miss those and I think Superman misses those, and that’s what keeps him steadfast and determined to look at the good and the hopeful and the future and grounded in the fun and playfulness of the present.”

A hero is only as good as the villain, and we can’t have a Superman movie without Lex Luthor. Portraying the iconic DC villain is Nicholas Hoult.

“This Lex is obviously smart and ruthless, and he has to outmaneuver Superman on certain levels because he can’t match him in others,” Hoult said. “But there’s also something about this character from my standpoint where even though you perhaps don’t agree with his process, there’s an element where you can understand on some levels where he is coming from and why perhaps what he’s pushing as his ideology is perhaps better for the humanity.”

Lois Lane is a journalist for the Daily Planet and a love interest for Superman. Like the titular hero, she is in the pursuit of truth and justice. The character is portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan.

“What I love about their relationship, every iteration of the comic books and all the films and television series, is that they’re soulmates,” Brosnahan said. “They’re united in the fact that they are both in relentless pursuit of truth and justice. But they approach the world in totally different ways. Because of her profession but also because of who she is, she questions everything. She questions everyone. She’s trying to see around every corner and that’s the way that she faces the world in Superman.”

About Superman

The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11. 2025.

My Adventures with Superman is an animated series on Adult Swim following the Man of Steel, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen as they discover who they are while dealing with threats from supervillains. The series features an anime-inspired art with new takes on DC villains including Lex Luthor and Livewire. The second season recently concluded this month, with an announcement of a third season back in June.

Jack Quaid, who voices the titular superhero, gives us an update on the show’s progress.

“I recorded the first episode the other day,” Jack Quaid said in a roundtable interview during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. “It’s going really well. I love the show. I’m so excited for you guys to see that season.”

Voicing Lois Lane is Alice Lee, who shared with us earlier this year how happy she was about Lois and Jimmy Olsen finding out Superman’s secret early on.

“Yeah, I love that Jimmy always knew,” Alice Lee tells Nerd Reactor. “I think that’s so sweet, and it’s cool that we got to know earlier rather than dragging it on. I love that. That’s a fresh take, like, they find out pretty soon. Lois knows and now we get to just explore all of their relationships from a different angle, not just constantly the secret. So we get to find out different things and go on different adventures, but also, just with all the secrets revealed. I think that’s super refreshing. So I love that our show did that. Because also Lois is really smart. It would be weird for her not to catch on. She’s not stupid.”

About My Adventures with Superman

My Adventures with Superman is a serialized coming-of-age story catching up with twenty-somethings Clark Kent, the bright and driven Lois Lane, and their best friend Jimmy Olsen as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet. The story follows Clark as he builds his secret identity as Superman and explores his own mysterious origins. Lois, on her way to becoming a star reporter, teams up with photographer Jimmy Olsen to break the stories that matter. All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love… as Lois gets closer and closer to uncovering his secret identity! Our trio share adventures, take down bad guys, stumble over secrets, and discover what it means to be heroes in their own right.

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 premiered on May 25, 2024, on Adult Swim.

My Adventures with Superman is an animated series that brings a more anime aesthetic and tropes into the world of Superman, giving audiences a refreshing take on the origin story of the Man of Steel. The heart of the show is the relationship between Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen as they deal with threats. My Adventures with Superman Season 2 will premiere on Adult Swim on May 25, 2025, and fans can expect new and returning heroes and villains including Lex Luthor, Supergirl, Amanda Waller and more.

Nerd Reactor had the chance to chat with the team of My Adventures with Superman including voice actors Alice Lee (Lois Lane) and Ishmel Sahid (Jimmy Olsen) and co-executive producers/writers Jake Wyatt & Brendan Clogher, and co-producer/writer Josie Campbell. They talk about season 2, Lex Luthor, Amanda Waller, Kara Danvers, the relationship between Lois, Jimmy and Clark, and more.

Lex Luthor was teased in the first season of My Adventures with Superman with the character of Alex. In season 2, he’ll have more of an appearance as a villain.

“He’s here. Yeah, he’s horrible,” Jake Wyatt tells Nerd Reactor about Lex Luthor.

“Our Lex Luthor, like our Superman, is just starting out and just building the persona of who he is,” Josie Campbell added. “Again, we’re trying to take him in a slightly different direction. His hatred of Superman is coming from a slightly different space, a more xenophobic space than, I think, previous Lexes. It’s less personal and more a real misanthropy coming out of this guy who was shaped by Dr. Ivo, who is not the best mentor to have if you want someone who’s well-adjusted.”

“I love all versions of Lex Luthor,” Wyatt continued. “Two that had a big impact on me as a kid was one was from – my school library had this collection of the old Superman newspaper serials, and that Lex Luthor is this evil, cackling scientist. But then in the comics, at the same time, I was reading like Lex Luthor had run for president, right? And so we’re trying to fuse those guys into both like this technological genius, who’s kind of a dastardly savvy political operator. He’s interested in the power of people and the power of opinion as he is in the power of science, and he’s really good at using both of them.”

The animated series didn’t delay in having Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen figure out Superman’s true identity. This opens up the characters to be more honest with each other and get to have more adventures together.

“Yeah, I love that Jimmy always knew,” Alice Lee said.

Fans will get to see Kara Danvers, Superman’s cousin, in the second season.

“I’m excited for the fans to finally get to know more of the characters that they love introduced in our world,” Lee explained. “I’m excited for them to meet Kara. She’s a great addition. I’m sure everyone’s excited. But yeah, and just continuing to explore all of our characters and their arcs, and they’re still going to have their issues and overcoming them and just all of their relationships evolving. More awesome animation. So yeah, I’m super excited for everyone to see. I hope they love it.”

Jimmy Olsen’s life has changed now that he’s a millionaire, but at the core, he’s still trying to help out his friends.

“It’s always good to see the underdog,” Ishmel Sahid said. “Yes, he is cockier, but also, there are points where he gets brought back down to reality, in a sense. He’s not cocky in the sense of like he thinks he’s better. It’s just more so his outlook on life changes a little bit. He still wants to bring his friends into his newfound wealth and whatnot. So, he’s one of those people. He just wants to share what he has. He just doesn’t know his ledge sometimes. So yeah, it was very fun to play that aspect of Jimmy’s newfound wealth as a millionaire.”

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 premieres on May 25, 2024, on Adult Swim, with two episodes. Max will be getting them the next day.
