The miniature replica is of the gate that was found on the Destiny, a large ancient ship, in Stargate Universe. The gate is older than those found in the Milky Way Galaxy. The replica’s glyphs light up, with the address for Earth. It measures 9.25 inches across and is made of polystone. The item was based on the digital model supplied by MGM.

For players who have been around competitive Magic for a while, this kind of announcement is part of the rhythm of the game. Wizards has explained that the goal of these updates is to keep formats feeling fun and fair without tipping the scales too far in any one direction, and what we got today reflects that mindset.

Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy: Still Quiet

For most of the big constructed formats, the verdict was simple: no changes. Standard stays as it was, with its wide variety of viable decks thanks to better diversity in the meta. Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy were untouched this round, meaning cards players expected could be targeted didn’t see any restriction or ban. For players who were rooting for a banning of certain over-performing cards in those formats, this will feel like a collective shrug, but also a sign that things are relatively balanced right now compared to past years.

Historic Shifts: A Bigger Story

The biggest individual hits went to Historic, where several cards were moved off the legal list entirely. Eldrazi Temple, Ajani, Nacatl Pariah, Crop Rotation, and Scholar of the Lost Trove are now banned in that format. On the flip side, a whole suite of cards previously absent from Historic are now legal again, including Magus of the Moon, Harbinger of the Seas, Force of Vigor, Force of Negation, Endurance, and Wilderness Reclamation. Agent of Treachery also returns to Historic playability after being freed by today’s changes.

This is the part where many players will feel their predictions were partly right; there were expectations that Historic would see some shake-ups, and Wizards delivered exactly that. However, the presence of several unbans was a bit more generous than some anticipated, so players who were bracing for only bans might feel pleasantly surprised.

Timeless Format Gets a Tweak

In Timeless, one noteworthy move was made: Necropotence is now restricted. This means players can still use it, but in a limited way that curbs some of its overwhelming power without removing it entirely from the format. That middle ground approach was something many players called for, given how iconic Necropotence is and how much it warps games when unrestricted.

Commander Sees Real Change

Commander, the format that generates perhaps the widest range of banlist speculation, got some true surprises. Two cards that have been banned for quite some time are now unbanned: Biorhythm and Lutri, the Spellchaser (Lutri is still banned as a companion, but otherwise legal). For Commander players who have been begging for these updates, this feels like recognition that the format continues to evolve and that some old restrictions might not matter as much in the context of broader multiplayer play.

Community discussion prior to the announcement saw wild price movements on cards like Primeval Titan, Prophet of Kruphix, and Jeweled Lotus as speculators anticipated potential unbans, but ultimately today’s changes were more measured than the most extreme expectations.

What This Means for Players

For folks playing Standard at your local store or queueing up for day one of a Premier event, today’s announcement probably won’t radically change your deckbuilding plans. But for Historic and Commander players, there’s plenty to explore. Some decks that were dormant may see new life, and interactions that once felt unthinkable could become part of your next game night.

Taken together, this update reads as an interesting conversation between Wizards and the community, rather than a list of unilateral strikes. The first set launched this year in March during WonderCon, with a wider release in July. It featured video game characters from Sonic the Hedgehog and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Wreck-It Ralph and Tron, films inspired by video games, were also part of the launch. Other popular characters included Luke and the three-eyed alien from the Toy Story films. The Toy Story arcade emulates the claw machine, along with Five Nights at Freddy’s.

What makes these collectibles adorable is their small size while capturing the arcade cabinet feel with the joystick, buttons, coin slots, and retro designs. The tiny package includes the miniature arcade display and the Bitty Pop! figure inside a box. The figure and box can be inserted inside the arcade by putting the figure at the top and the box at the bottom.

It’s a movie-accurate toy that features Toothless’ plasma blast action and giant wings and a long tail.

The toy is easy to assemble. Open the packaging, remove the twist ties, and snap the wings and tail to the body. Once that is done, you push a button on his back to have him open his mouth, with sound effects and lights coming out of it. There is an on and off button, so make sure it’s on and the battery has juice.

Tamashii Nations (Booth 3329)

The Tamashii Nations booth offers a variety of statues and figures across various anime and film IPs, including general release items and exclusive figures. This year’s exclusives include S.H.Figuarts Beast Son Gohan, S.H.Figuarts Great Demon King Piccolo, and S.H.Figuarts Great Ape Vegeta.

In previous years, you would need to get tickets from the offsite to purchase the exclusives; however, this year the Dragon Ball exclusives require a reservation through the SDCC exclusives portal. Along with the sale items, the booth typically features displays of all the latest lines and reveals of upcoming releases.

Tamagotchi/Godzilla (Booth 3345)

Just across the way from the Tamashii Nations booth lies the Tamagotchi/Godzilla booth with even more of Bandai’s offerings.

Attendees will be able to shop all new releases debuting at the show, such as Tamagotchi Connection – Fall Collection, Jurassic World Rebirth Tamagotchi Nano, Tamagotchi Collectibles Hobby Time, Tamashii Nations Chogokin, Tamagotchi Paradise, and various lifestyle items. The S.H.MonsterArts GODZILLA (2023) figure will also be available, with no reservations needed.

Alongside the merchandise will be Tamagotchi Lab Tama, playable devices, Tamagotchi Plaza Nintendo Switch demo, Gashapon machines, and mascot appearances.

Godzilla Posters

Godzilla also celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. The booth will be decorated as an abandoned kaiju fallout shelter and will feature displays and photo ops. Also available will be a limited-edition gift with purchase poster illustrated by IDW Godzilla writer/artist Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Revival, and Nightwing).

Beyblade X Panel

The Beyblade X Season 2 Panel will be held on July 4th at noon PT at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Room 402AB. Guests will get the exclusive first look at the premiere episode of the second season of Beyblade X. The show will then premiere on Disney XD on July 26, 2025.

Anairis Quinones, who voiced Mirko from My Hero Academia and Multi Nana-iro from Beyblade X, will join in the panel as a special guest.

The panel will also have trivia with fan giveaways. It is first come, first served for 250 attendees.

World Championship Tournament

The tournament will be held on July 5 at 10 am PT inside the Los Angeles Convention Center at Booth E-25. Registration begins at 9 am PT. Bladers can battle each other to become the National Champion. As a result, they can earn a spot in the World Championship competition at Tokyo Tower on October 11-12, 2025. The winner of the tournament at Anime Expo will receive a paid trip to Tokyo to compete.

Bladers must be 13 years old or older, and the first 128 participants who register are able to compete. They are encouraged to bring their own Hasbro Beyblade X Tops to use at the tournament. If they don’t have one, a limited selection of Hasbro Tops will be made available to borrow on-site. In conclusion, this will lead to the final eight as they battle with three different Tops in Hasbro’s Beyblade X Xtreme Battle Set Beystadium.

In the world of Lilo & Stitch, Sitch is looking adorable with his bunny ears and polka dot bow tie. The timing is fitting with the upcoming release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch film releasing in theaters on May 23, 2025.

Angel, aka Experiment 624, is known as Stitch’s love interest. The pink alien has her own bunny ears with a pair of bow ties for each ear.
