After the events of the first season of Paramount+’s Landman, Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris is moving on up. With his new role as operations VP at M-Tex, he is accumulating more headaches as he deals with a crime boss (Andy Garcia), his new boss (Demi Moore), and his family. Helping to ease those troubles is in-house lawyer Rebecca Falcone, portrayed by Kayla Wallace.

In the second season of Landman, Rebecca meets Charlie under “turbulent” conditions, with their night ending with some “quality time.”

“What a cool way to introduce a character on a plane, under turbulent circumstances,” Burnet tells Nerd Reactor. “For me and also as the character, you’re going, ‘Lucky me! She would not even consider… two people from two different worlds, she’s so beautiful, all of this kind of stuff.’ And then the circumstances have it that there’s good chemistry. And he gets to sleep with this beautiful woman. And I think even if for him, he’s like, ‘Wow, she’s incredible.’ I don’t think he’s thinking that there’s a chance that she’d ever be interested beyond this one-night stand situation. But without giving too much away, I think the set circumstances are about to work in his favor once more.”

The world of Taylor Sheridan is chaotic, even if there is some predictability on the horizon.

“I think what’s cool for me is this is not necessarily a fish out of water in terms of where he’s from and being there, but he does have a set of skills which fit that specific world,” the actor explained. “And what I think is cool for this Charlie character is that there are a lot of places it can go. There are a lot of interactions that he can have along the way, because of what his job is in that world, which people would discover as it goes along. Yes, it is unpredictable, but there’s some predictability.

“Is it a romance or something like this, but beyond that, I think, especially with all of Taylor’s stuff, you just don’t know what’s gonna happen. And that’s how it was when we were filming it. We’d get these scripts pretty close to when we were shooting them, and you’d read them and go, ‘Oh, oh, is that what happened? Oh, no shit. Okay, we’re going in that direction.’ So it keeps you on your toes, which I think is good because as a human being, you don’t know what’s necessarily going to happen the next day or in a few days. It’s good that your characters remain in that kind of limbo, too.”

Guy and Kayla would try to capture their real-life chemistry on the screen for audiences.

“She’s so nice,” the actor said about his co-star. “I know she’s like a bulldog on that show, but she’s the nicest, sweetest human being. ‘We’re going to place you with Kayla,’ and somewhat my objective there is to try and soften her up. Let’s find a new aspect to this character that we haven’t seen before. That was my objective, my job. I’m just there for her story, really.

“I had some of my ideas too, and I’d spoken with Taylor too about what he wanted me to convey. And then I called up Kayla. I got Kayla’s information, and I asked if she wanted to meet, and we had lunch together. We talked about life, like our lives. It was just very easy, and we got on really well. And we just brought that into the filming, so to speak. We just tried to create that, and not romantically – she’s a married woman – but yeah, we just bought the chemistry that we had naturally, and we added it to what was already there on the page.”

Landman Season 2 is currently airing on Sundays on Paramount+.
