Venom: The Last Dance, the conclusion to the trilogy starring Tom Hardy, is now out in theaters. The story follows Eddie Brock and Venom as they deal with a new threat, Knull, known as the creator of the symbiotes. Their journey will take them to Sin City and Area 51 as they try to escape capture by the government and the eldritch god of darkness.

One of the staples of the Venom films is Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen, a friend of Brock who owns a convenience store in San Francisco. She even appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse when The Spot opened a portal to her store. Moviegoers will get to see her again in Venom: The Last Dance as Venom and Eddie Brock meet Mrs. Chen inside a Las Vegas casino.

Peggy Lu: And then he said, “What do you think about Mrs. Chen in this script?” And I go, “What?” And I was so shocked that he asked me and treated me like an equal, as his colleague. He just set the tone.”

In the first two Venom films, Mrs. Chen works at her convenience store and deals with robbers. However, she has a guardian angel by the name of Venom, just as long as she gives him chocolate. In the third film, she finally gets to relax and enjoy her trip to Las Vegas.

“I am on vacation,” Lu said about Mrs. Chen in Venom: The Last Dance.

About Venom: The Last Dance

Synopsis – In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.

Venom: The Last Dance is written and directed by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) from a story by Tom Hardy & Marcel. It’s produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker and executive produced by Joe Caracciolo Jr.

The film stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.

Venom: The Last Dance offers an immersive 4DX experience, where the sensory elements blend seamlessly into the film’s action and emotional beats. The effects pull you into Venom and Eddie’s world during intense action sequences or emotional moments. This experience uses motion seats, air shots, back pokes, wind effects, a lot of water sprays, and more in perfect harmony. While some may skip the 4DX experience because it becomes too overwhelming, the Venom experience feels more integrated into the storytelling.

In this final chapter, Venom: The Last Dance focuses on Eddie Brock and Venom, who are on the run, pursued by the military and hunters from Venom’s homeworld, Klyntar. This time around, their friendship and brotherly love are the film’s central themes. Eddie and Venom’s relationship has become much more heartfelt and sweet, and the duo has grown emotionally attached. Despite the drama Venom generates for Eddie, their bond shines through, creating an unexpectedly heartwarming dynamic that the audience can’t help but be drawn into.

Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie and Venom feels deeper in this film, as their relationship has softened, and they have become more dependent on each other. Their bond is central to the film’s emotional weight, adding layers to the story beyond simple action or CGI. At the same time, Rhys Ifans stands out in his role, bringing humor and warmth, especially alongside his on-screen family. Their interactions help soften the film’s emotional tone, adding a layer of humanity that contrasts nicely with the wildness of Venom and the action sequences. The villains, while dangerous, don’t leave a lasting impression, serving as more of a physical threat rather than memorable adversaries.

The sensory effects in Venom: The Last Dance enhance the experience, making you feel like you’re part of the movie.

Visually, the film is just right with the 4DX technology. The cinematography is in sync with the effects, so for example, when Eddie and Venom dive into the water, you’re hit with sprays, or when they cling to the side of a 747 in mid-flight, you feel the fans blasting you, and seats move as their struggle unfolds. Also, the seat vibrations during internal symbiote conversations further enhance the immersive experience, which makes them feel more present.

As previously mentioned, one of the best aspects of the film in 4DX is the balance of effects. Unlike some other movies, where some effects like seat movement can dominate, Venom: The Last Dance uses a variety of impacts—seat motion, water sprays, wind, lights, fog, flashing lights, back pokes, etc.—all in harmony. This balance makes the experience more comfortable and less overwhelming while fully immersing you in the action.

Overall, Venom: The Last Dance is a must-watch in 4DX. The sensory effects enhance the experience, making you feel like you’re part of the movie, and the balance of those effects helps avoid overkill. The emotional core of the story, focusing on Eddie and Venom’s bond, adds depth to the action, creating a thrilling and heartfelt experience. It may not be the most intellectually engaging, or the Venom movie we deserve that’s on the same level as MCU films, but boy, is it a lot of fun.

Reports came out earlier this year, that this would likely be the final Venom film for Tom Hardy. The actor recently commented on an Instagram post for the film confirming this would be his last outing as The Lethal Protector:

“Thank you for a great time – and 7 years. Come see us off – last in the trilogy and done We have had such a great time. Thank you.”

Despite what Hardy said, the rumor going around is that he and Tom Holland will have to work together to take down Knull in Spider-Man 4.

It was just last month, that fans got their first glimpse at the god of symbiotes in a new trailer for The Last Dance.

@nerdreactor
Meet the creator of the symbiotes in Venom: The Last Dance. #venom #venomthelastdance #knull #marvelcomics #eddiebrock
♬ original sound – Nerd Reactor

Since then it has been confirmed that Knull will be the film’s main villain and there has been heavy speculation on who is playing the role. The rumors at the time pegged Walking Dead star Norman Reedus as The King in Black, but a recent report says that Knull is actually being played by Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis. Known movie scooper DanielRPK says that not only will Serkis play Knull in the final Venom film, but that Serkis has signed on for more than one movie.

Earlier this year, news came out that the piece of the symbiote Tom Hardy left behind in Spider-Man: No Way Home would play a major role in the next Spider-Man film. Since then, news has come out that Marvel wants Spider-Man to appear in more MCU movies and that he will have a larger role in the next phase. There is a chance that Marvel’s new deal with Sony allows Venom and Spider-Man to finally crossover.

Back in August, Tom Hardy was spotted in New York City doing reshoots for The Last Dance. Some hypothesize that the reshoots were for a post-credits scene where Eddie Brock goes to New York in the MCU looking for Peter Parker and that the reason the reshoots were so close to the film’s release was due to Marvel and Sony finally hashing out a new deal.

If that wasn’t enough, earlier today, another scoop reporter claimed that the current working title for the next Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man: The King in Black.

Of course, this is all just rumors and we won’t know for sure until Venom: The Last Dance is finally released in theaters on October 25th.

Sony Pictures has dropped the first official trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, which marks the third and final film for Tom Hardy as the deadly and powerful anti-hero, Venom. The character is one of Spider-Man’s most popular rivals and was the main antagonist in last year’s Spider-Man 2 video game. In the new trailer, Eddie Brock and Venom are on the run, and to make things worse, Venom’s home has found them.

The filmmakers seem to be enjoying Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso so much that they brought actors from the show, including Cristo Fernández and Juno Temple. Fernández was seen in the end credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the Venom: The Last Dance trailer, we see him with Ejiofor’s character. Does this mean the scene in No Way Home was a variant of Fernández’s character?

Also, Rhys Ifans is back in a Sony and Marvel movie. He portrayed the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home. And then we have Ejiofor as an antagonist, who was Mordo in the MCU. Casting these two actors who portrayed pivotal characters in their respective Marvel films can be a bit confusing.

The first two Venom films have been a big hit for Sony, earning over $1.3 billion at the box office worldwide. However, this will be the last time we’ll see Hardy as the symbiote.

“I think you got to swing for the fences with these things,” Hardy tells Forbes. “It’s the last one and we want to go out with a bang, and lay the foundations for optionality and possibilities because it’s been such a great ride. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working within that field and remit of a big film with big ideas, and a lot of people looking to you to back that up.”

Lots of Spidey news has dropped lately! When we last reported, Sony appeared to have their eyes on a who’s who list of potential directors for the upcoming Spider-Man 4. Since then, Aquaman director and Saw creator James Wan has been added to the list, and Sony Pictures has been rumored to have already sent an offer to one of the named directors.

Today, Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman announced the upcoming Venom: The Last Dance would be the final Venom movie. In the same interview, Rotham also said, “Let me tell you, when the last of the Spider-Verse movies comes with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it’s going to be a significant event, as will the next Tom Holland Spider-Man film… For those fans, that’s going to be a significant moment. We have those. The third and last Venom is going to be huge.”

While we can’t confirm what Rothman appears to be hinting at, what is interesting is that known movie scooper Daniel RPK just announced the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film will involve the symbiote that was left behind by Eddie Brock in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In Venom: Let There Be Carage, Eddie Brock and Venom are pulled into Spider-Man’s universe. Unfortunately for many fans, Tom Hardy and Tom Holland never shared a scene together during No Way Home before Venom was returned to his universe. During the end-credits scene, we can see a small blob of the black symbiote left behind on the bar counter, and it moves just before the camera cuts to black.

If this rumor is true, it will be very interesting to see how the Symbiote will affect Tom Holland’s Spider-Man who is now all on his own since the events of No Way Home.

Daniel RPK also hints that Sony will announce the new director soon as they hope to begin production on Spider-Man 4 this fall. Stay tuned!

Some very interesting news dropped this week revolving around one of Spider-Man’s deadliest foes. While we are still a few months away from Tom Hardy’s last installment in his Venom trilogy, it appears Sony Pictures is already preparing for what’s next. Known movie news scooper @CanWeGetSomeToast has just reported that Sony has signed Seth Rogen to write and produce an upcoming Venom animated movie that will be rated R.

The rumors that Sony Pictures Animation was developing a Venom film started just last month, and it appears they are wasting no time by putting some heavy hitters behind it. Rogen is an accomplished comedic actor, but more recently, he has been finding more success behind the camera producing hit series The Boyz, Gen V, and Invincible for Amazon Prime Video.

This past summer, Seth Rogen, along with his long-time writing partner Evan Goldberg, released the critically acclaimed Ninja Turtles reboot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. It is easy to see why Sony would be interested in enlisting the talents of Rogen. There is no word yet if Evan Goldberg will also join Rogen, but the chances are high considering they have produced and written every project they’ve been a part of since Knocked Up (2007).

It is crazy to think it has been ten years since Goldberg and Rogen have worked with Sony Pictures, but then you realize the last time the duo worked with the studio was for the controversial comedy, The Interview. The film about North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un not only put Goldberg and Rogen’s lives in danger, but it also led to Sony as a whole getting hacked. Since then, Seth Rogen has directed multiple TV episodes, but he has not directed a film since The Interview.

In an interview with The New York Times, Rogen said, “It was something that for sure felt like we burned our hands on the stove. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we haven’t directed a film since.”

It will be interesting to see what Rogen and Goldberg will do with the Marvel anti-hero. They have clearly shown they know how to successfully adapt comic book characters for TV and film. You also have to wonder if their film is at all connected to the current Lord and Miller’s Spider-Verse. One thing is for certain, they have gotten everyone’s attention.

@Sethrogen hope you’re considering me for your upcoming “Venom” project!!??
— Tony Todd (@TonyTodd54) March 27, 2024

Tony Todd recently voiced Venom in the popular video game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. He said via his X account: “@Sethrogen hope you’re considering me for your upcoming ‘Venom’ project!!??”
