Venom: The Last Dance concludes Tom Hardy’s symbiote saga with a chaotic, action-packed, and surprisingly emotional final chapter. While it doesn’t even come close to reaching the same level as other good superhero flicks, it delivers enough thrills, humor, and heart to satisfy fans.

Venom: The Last Dance follows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his alien partner Venom as they find themselves hunted by enemies from both their worlds. With the noose tightening around them, Eddie and Venom face increasingly dire choices, pushing their strained partnership to its limits. The stakes have never been higher, and the movie leans into the emotional fallout of their symbiotic bond in a way that feels natural and, at times, unexpectedly touching.

Tom Hardy continues to shine in his dual role. Hardy continues to fully embrace the chaotic interplay between Eddie’s sarcasm and Venom’s over-the-top bravado. Their banter remains a highlight, providing much-needed lightness amidst the more intense plot points. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple also make memorable impressions, though some of the supporting cast feels underutilized.

Director Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote the screenplay with Hardy, balances the franchise’s signature absurd humor with moments of genuine emotion. The result is a film that’s tonally uneven but undeniably entertaining. The action sequences are bigger and flashier than ever. Yet, the heavy reliance on CGI in some scenes makes the action feel overwhelming rather than exhilarating.

Overall, while Venom: The Last Dance doesn’t fix all the flaws of its predecessors, it sticks the landing by focusing on what has always worked: the dysfunctional yet endearing relationship between Eddie and Venom. For fans of the franchise, this is a must-watch conclusion. For everyone else, it’s a solid, if slightly messy, popcorn flick with enough personality to stand out from the muck of Sony’s own Spiderverse. The movie might not be perfect, but it’s an entertaining and heartfelt farewell to Eddie and Venom’s bizarre journey.

Video

Venom: The Last Dance is available on Ultra HD Blu-ray in a native 4K, HEVC / H.265, Dolby Vision/HDR10 presentation with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Venom: The Last Dance delivers exceptional video quality. The pristine contrast is immediately striking, with bright highlights and inky blacks that add depth to the picture. Colors are equally impressive, bursting off the screen, with Dolby Vision enhancements providing an extra layer of vibrancy. Symbiote primaries receive a noticeable boost, while elements like Mrs. Chen’s shimmering red Vegas gown and the lush reds, oranges, and greens are rendered stunningly. Detail clarity is another standout feature, as the symbiotes’ razor-sharp tendrils and refined textures are captured with remarkable precision.

Audio

Venom: The Last Dance is available on Ultra HD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos or a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio presentation if Atmos is not supported. This review will cover the Blu-ray’s Dolby Atmos mix. The Atmos mix for Venom: The Last Dance is equally impressive, providing an immersive and dynamic sound experience. Smooth and precise panning transitions envelop viewers in the action and create a rich and engaging soundstage. The dome-like mix remains consistently active, while overhead effects are not overly prominent. Atmospheric effects are key in enhancing the experience, with ambient sounds frequently filling the soundscape to maintain an active and engaging auditory environment. Dialogue is clean and clear, allowing conversations to come through crisply even amidst the chaos. The subwoofer also gets its fair share of attention. Venom’s deep, resonant voice adds weight and intensity to every line, accompanied by impactful bass punctuating the film’s most intense moments.

Special Features

Venom: The Last Dance has no bonus features on the Ultra HD disc. However, the following bonus features can be found on the HD Blu-ray disc:

Venomous Laughs: Outtakes & Bloopers

Author of Mayhem: From Writer to Director

Venom Unleashed: The Action and Stunts

Bonded in Chaos: Tom Hardy

Venom’s Inner Circle

Brock Bottom: Mrs. Chen Interview

Deleted & Extended Scenes

Strickland’s Pursuit

Venom’s Guilty Pleasure

Toxin’s Warning

Select Scene Previs

Airplane

Desert

Lab Attack

One Last Dance – Tom Morello x Grandson

Features Assessment

Despite a long list of features, the bonus features are a bit underwhelming. They’re mostly EPK-type featurettes and promotional items. Interesting, but nothing insightful. There are a few focused segments, like “Venom Unleashed” or “Venom’s Inner Circle,” but none are long or in-depth.

Finally, to celebrate the Ultra HD home release of Venom: The Last Dance, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has also released a special steelbook edition. This glossy finish steelbook features Venom in the front (see above) and an extension of the tendrils in the back. Inside, you’ll find the symbiote horse with Eddie riding it.

Special Features Review: 2.5/5 atoms

Overall, Venom: The Last Dance is not the best comic book movie, but the film is still mindlessly entertaining. I say that in the nicest ways because sometimes we need that escapism with mindless entertainment. The video and audio presentations are dazzling, but the bonus features are underwhelming content-wise.

Overall Review: 4/5 atoms

Venom: The Last Dance offers an immersive 4DX experience, where the sensory elements blend seamlessly into the film’s action and emotional beats. The effects pull you into Venom and Eddie’s world during intense action sequences or emotional moments. This experience uses motion seats, air shots, back pokes, wind effects, a lot of water sprays, and more in perfect harmony. While some may skip the 4DX experience because it becomes too overwhelming, the Venom experience feels more integrated into the storytelling.

In this final chapter, Venom: The Last Dance focuses on Eddie Brock and Venom, who are on the run, pursued by the military and hunters from Venom’s homeworld, Klyntar. This time around, their friendship and brotherly love are the film’s central themes. Eddie and Venom’s relationship has become much more heartfelt and sweet, and the duo has grown emotionally attached. Despite the drama Venom generates for Eddie, their bond shines through, creating an unexpectedly heartwarming dynamic that the audience can’t help but be drawn into.

Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Eddie and Venom feels deeper in this film, as their relationship has softened, and they have become more dependent on each other. Their bond is central to the film’s emotional weight, adding layers to the story beyond simple action or CGI. At the same time, Rhys Ifans stands out in his role, bringing humor and warmth, especially alongside his on-screen family. Their interactions help soften the film’s emotional tone, adding a layer of humanity that contrasts nicely with the wildness of Venom and the action sequences. The villains, while dangerous, don’t leave a lasting impression, serving as more of a physical threat rather than memorable adversaries.

The sensory effects in Venom: The Last Dance enhance the experience, making you feel like you’re part of the movie.

Visually, the film is just right with the 4DX technology. The cinematography is in sync with the effects, so for example, when Eddie and Venom dive into the water, you’re hit with sprays, or when they cling to the side of a 747 in mid-flight, you feel the fans blasting you, and seats move as their struggle unfolds. Also, the seat vibrations during internal symbiote conversations further enhance the immersive experience, which makes them feel more present.

As previously mentioned, one of the best aspects of the film in 4DX is the balance of effects. Unlike some other movies, where some effects like seat movement can dominate, Venom: The Last Dance uses a variety of impacts—seat motion, water sprays, wind, lights, fog, flashing lights, back pokes, etc.—all in harmony. This balance makes the experience more comfortable and less overwhelming while fully immersing you in the action.

Overall, Venom: The Last Dance is a must-watch in 4DX. The sensory effects enhance the experience, making you feel like you’re part of the movie, and the balance of those effects helps avoid overkill. The emotional core of the story, focusing on Eddie and Venom’s bond, adds depth to the action, creating a thrilling and heartfelt experience. It may not be the most intellectually engaging, or the Venom movie we deserve that’s on the same level as MCU films, but boy, is it a lot of fun.

Reports came out earlier this year, that this would likely be the final Venom film for Tom Hardy. The actor recently commented on an Instagram post for the film confirming this would be his last outing as The Lethal Protector:

“Thank you for a great time – and 7 years. I’ve had the best experience @Sony working with Venom – this is me and the big guy’s last outing going out with a Bang!!! Come see us off – last in the trilogy and done We have had such a great time. Thank you.”

Despite what Hardy said, the rumor going around is that he and Tom Holland will have to work together to take down Knull in Spider-Man 4.

It was just last month, that fans got their first glimpse at the god of symbiotes in a new trailer for The Last Dance.

Since then it has been confirmed that Knull will be the film’s main villain and there has been heavy speculation on who is playing the role. The rumors at the time pegged Walking Dead star Norman Reedus as The King in Black, but a recent report says that Knull is actually being played by Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis. Known movie scooper DanielRPK says that not only will Serkis play Knull in the final Venom film, but that Serkis has signed on for more than one movie.

Earlier this year, news came out that the piece of the symbiote Tom Hardy left behind in Spider-Man: No Way Home would play a major role in the next Spider-Man film. Since then, news has come out that Marvel wants Spider-Man to appear in more MCU movies and that he will have a larger role in the next phase. There is a chance that Marvel’s new deal with Sony allows Venom and Spider-Man to finally crossover.

Back in August, Tom Hardy was spotted in New York City doing reshoots for The Last Dance. Some hypothesize that the reshoots were for a post-credits scene where Eddie Brock goes to New York in the MCU looking for Peter Parker and that the reason the reshoots were so close to the film’s release was due to Marvel and Sony finally hashing out a new deal.

If that wasn’t enough, earlier today, another scoop reporter claimed that the current working title for the next Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man: The King in Black.

Of course, this is all just rumors and we won’t know for sure until Venom: The Last Dance is finally released in theaters on October 25th.

The Bikeriders delivers a ride through motorcycle culture that is as gritty as it is familiar. The film benefits greatly from its stellar cast, with standout performances by Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy that bring depth to an otherwise conventional narrative. Each one brings their unique strengths to the screen, adding layers of complexity to characters that might have otherwise felt one-dimensional.

From the start, The Bikeriders captures the raw, unfiltered essence of life within a motorcycle gang. Nichols’ attention to detail shines through in the film’s setting and atmosphere, immersing viewers in a world where loyalty and rebellion coexist. The cinematography, drenched in the smoky haze of bars and the roar of engines, further amplifies the film’s authenticity, making the audience feel connected to the story. Yet, despite these strengths, the story itself treads familiar ground, rarely venturing into unexpected territory.

Moreover, while the film effectively portrays the camaraderie and conflicts within the gang, it doesn’t break new ground in exploring these themes. The predictable narrative makes it easy to see where things are headed long before they arrive. This sense of inevitability slightly diminishes the film’s impact, leaving audiences feeling that they’ve seen this story before.

On the other hand, the film’s commitment to accurately depicting its setting and characters effectively compensates for particular weaknesses. Nichols’ skillful direction and the cast’s wholehearted performances guarantee that the film remains captivating despite the plot’s occasional predictability.

Overall, The Bikeriders may not revolutionize the genre. Still, it does offer a compelling, if conventional, glimpse into motorcycle culture. With its gritty realism, the film immerses the audience in the world of motorcycle gangs, and the charismatic performances make it worth a watch for fans of the genre. However, those looking for something more groundbreaking might find it lacking in excitement.

Video

The Bikeriders is available on Ultra HD Blu-ray in a native 4K, HEVC / H.265, HDR10 presentation with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The film has impressively deep black levels that maintain detail without any loss. A slight sepia tone adds to the vintage feel and enhances the authentic look. Although much of the film features muted, drab tones, the greens and reds stand out, especially in the environments and the red dress. The fine details are remarkable, allowing viewers to appreciate the intricacies of the vintage bikes, both when stationary and in motion, thanks to special camera setups. The costumes also shine, with everything looking appropriately aged and authentic. Nothing feels too modern or out of place. The film beautifully captures the dirty leather, worn boots, and oily faces. Finally, the grain is fine and natural-looking, never overwhelming or distracting.

Audio

The Bikeriders is available on Ultra HD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos or a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio presentation if Atmos is not supported. This review will cover the Blu-ray’s Dolby Atmos mix. The film’s audio directionality is excellent. Objects, especially motorcycles, smoothly move through the sound field, creating an immersive experience. Surround sound places viewers in the middle of parties, bars, races, and other on-screen action. The music is handled precisely and clearly, effectively setting the film in its era. The film places dialogue clearly and well-rendered, front and center, ensuring it’s always prioritized in this dialogue-heavy movie. Additionally, the substantial bass in the audio allows you to feel and hear the rumble of motorcycles, adding depth to sound effects like punches, crashes, and gunshots.

Special Features

The Bikeriders have the following bonus features that can be found on the disc:

Johnny, Benny, & Kathy

The Era of The Bikeriders

The Filmmaker’s Eye: Jeff Nichols

Feature Commentary with Writer/Director Jeff Nichols

Features Assessment

Unfortunately, there are not many bonus features in this release. The featurettes add to about twelve minutes, but the feature commentary is the most extensive and fascinating. “Johnny, Benny, & Kathy” features discussions with Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Jeff Nichols about adapting Danny Lyon’s book into a movie, their collaboration, accents, and related topics. Additionally, “The Era of The Bikeriders” includes conversations with Jeff Nichols, Austin Butler, Emory Cohen, and Jodie Comer about the vintage bikes, clothing, and accessories used in the film and how the cast became comfortable riding motorcycles.

“The Filmmaker’s Eye: Jeff Nichols” focuses on Nichols’ passion and vision for the project, with cast members also sharing their experiences working on the film and with Nichols. In the feature commentary, Nichols discusses his love for the book that inspired the film, his choice of Kathy as the narrator, music selection, location scouting, and more. Though he occasionally falls silent, Nichols is still engaging and informative, making it an enjoyable listen.
