Nerd Reactor had the chance to chat with Valorie Curry, who portrayed Firecracker, a member of The Seven who uses her show to manipulate the masses. She talks about fans’ reactions to her shocking episode.

“It’s been pleasantly surprising because it seems to have sparked a lot of conversation about the crisis of faith that [Firecracker] goes through,” Curry tells Nerd Reactor. “It’s such a humanizing story and a relatable sort of story for a lot of people. It’s meant so much to me to hear from people who saw themselves in that. I was so happy watching it to see that it doesn’t talk down to anybody. It’s not making fun of anybody. It’s not actually making a joke of people who are having a crisis of faith, leaving a high-control religion, or leaving a political perspective. That existential crisis is treated in a very empathetic way. And that’s why I think it has resonated with so many people.”

Season 5, Episode 5 features Firecracker manipulating the public again on TV, but this time, the viewers understand what she is going through. Will she throw her former pastor under the bus, or will she try to defend her past church?

“The tear thing is interesting,” she said. “Because other than this scene, almost every time she cries, she can turn the water works on like that. They’re crocodile tears, right? She knows how to use her instrument, and none of those tears are coming from some real place. It’s like she’s choking on what she has to say, and that’s the one way that it comes out. It comes through that crack in the mask. That scene was by far the most painful scene to shoot. It was excruciating, and I think the reason it’s so painful is that she hasn’t actually decided yet. She still hasn’t decided when the camera starts rolling, and you just watch her vomit up that lie, and she hates herself.”

The finale episode of The Boys airs on May 20, 2026.

Jessie T. Usher reprises his role as A-Train, who is seen on the run and trying to protect his family.

“I love that we find him in the only place that really makes sense,” Usher tells Nerd Reactor. “I love that he’s on the run, and it’s fitting for him. When you think about all of the stuff that he’s done up until this point, the only way out for him is to just stay on the move. He can’t really come back and face the mess that he made because it’s larger than him. There’s no way he can come back and tell the world what he did and have them just accept him. There’s no way that he can go back and say to Homelander what he wants to say without getting lasered.

“There’s just all these things. So the only thing that really makes sense is for him to be running. And I love that that’s where we see him. And I love that he hasn’t forgotten that and that the stakes are high, and at this point, where do we go next? With this character, it just feels like this ticking time bomb that’s just waiting to happen. And I love that he just takes control of his life for the first time.”

Susan Heyward portrays Sister Sage, a member of the Seven with superhuman intelligence.

“Things need resolution, stories need resolutions,” Heyward said about the show having a final season. “And as satirical as the show is, as inspired by real-life events as the show is, it is a story. So it does need to end. And kudos to Kripke and the writers for giving us a beginning, a middle, an end, and going out on a high, right? Instead of dragging it out and diluting the power.”

As part of The Seven, Firecracker is there to help out Homelander. Valorie Curry (Detroit: Become Human) is back as the Supes with the power of simple pyrokinetic sparks. However, she does have superhuman strength.

“It tells you that there was an intention behind the storytelling from the beginning,” Curry added. “And if it’s sort of just forever ongoing and open-ended, then to me, it sort of loses that sense of intention. And it’s always had a very strong point of view. And that is probably its greatest asset.”

The Boys Season Five will premiere on April 8, 2026, with two episodes, followed by a new episode each week, with the series finale on May 20, 2026. The season will stream exclusively on Prime Video.

Even though The Boys is ending soon, fans still have the upcoming Gen V Season 3 and the prequel series, Vought Rising.

The Boys spinoff series is known for its irreverent humor and bloody action. Season 2 continues that tradition and follows the Godolkin students as they deal with a new dean, Cypher, and with each other.

Broadway portrays Emma, a superhero with the power of shrinking and growing. This season, she is practicing how to use her powers at will.

“I mean, our show is so unhinged,” Broadway tells Nerd Reactor. “Like when you think you know The Boys universe, surprise! And I will leave you with a ‘pew pew, pew pew pew pew pew.’ That’s all I will say.”

Thor and Luh portray Jordan Li, who can change gender, with the male version having super strength and durability, and the female version having superhuman agility and shooting energy blasts.

“Oh my gosh, this season is going to be crazy,” Thor said about the second season. “There’s so much more action. The stakes are raised. The relationships are so much bigger and deeper, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s also really funny.”

Marie, portrayed by Sinclair, has the power to manipulate blood, making her one of the most powerful Supers in The Boys universe. She is on the run but ultimately decides to go back to Godolkin University to help out Emma and Jordan.

“Yeah, we definitely have more enemies in season two for sure,” Sinclair said. “And just the journey of Marie’s powers of realizing all the things she can do and what to do with that. And she’s always got a certain amount of clumsiness that I love.”

The Boys Season 4 premieres its first three episodes on June 13, 2024, with a new episode each week. The season will end with the finale on Thursday, July 18th. There are eight episodes in total.

Gen V opens up with a bloody scene of a young Marie Moreau, who discovers she has the power to manipulate… yes, blood. It evokes the X-Men scene where Rogue had her first kiss and discovered her powers for the first time. As for Marie, her menstrual bleeding turns into a dagger, accidentally cutting her mother’s throat as she walks into the bathroom. Her father checks up on the two and is horrified, causing Marie to freak out and explode both her mom and dad into an even bloodier mess. This opening is a perfect way to let viewers know that they’re in for one crazy and horrifying ride.

The series follows young adult superheroes, aka Supes, at a university, so viewers can expect sex, drugs and partying. Since it’s set in the world of The Boys, there are deaths, body parts exploding including a penis, and lots of crude humor. Like Black Noir seeing animated characters in season 3 of The Boys, a character in Gen V sees puppets, and it’s adorable yet bloody.

Jaz Sinclair is the lead as the young adult Marie, someone who wants to escape her past with ambitions to become the top student at Godolkin University. As the outcast turned popular student, she is at ease with the transformation. She befriends the other top students along with her roommate, Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer, a sweet yet horny supe who can shrink down to size. Together, they navigate a world that can be harsh as they struggle with identity and acceptance. When a student is taken away by security in a really violent altercation, it kickstarts an investigation that will lead Marie and her classmates down a dark and sinister plot at Godolkin University.

Marie gets in quick with the popular crowd as she’s invited by Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo), a charming but mischievous supe with the power to control metal. Patrick Schwarzenegger is Golden Boy, the number one student with the power of pyrokinesis; Maddie Phillips is Cate Dunlap, a mind empath who will protect her friends; and London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, a gender-shifter who feels slighted by the school.

“The power that we have is called shifting,” Thor said about Jordan Li’s powers. “And it really does play out in the story, both in fighting and in relationships as well. It adds to the dynamic and complex idea of who you are in college, in growing up and finding yourself. And also, it creates this fantastic weapon.”

It’s set in the world of The Boys, so fans and viewers will see nods including a statue of Homelander at Godolkin University.

“The presence of Homelander and The Seven is very easy to see on the campus,” Thor explained. “We’ve got literal statues of Homelander looking down on us at all times, and all the other superheroes watching. It’s a huge part of the school. I think they surround it almost like propaganda of “This is what you are aspiring to,” and it’s just all-encompassing, and it’s always there, and you’re always aiming for it.”
