OceanXplorers is a new National Geographic mini-series following the crew and a research vessel focused on exploring 80% of Earth’s uncharted oceans. The six-episode series is executive produced and narrated by James Cameron and premiered on August 18, 2024.

“My true passion lies in deep ocean science and in exploration,” Cameron tells National Geographic. “In ‘OceanXplorers,’ we take viewers on an unparalleled ocean science adventure, introducing them to a group of principled, passionate people on a sometimes dangerous mission of ocean discovery in real time. We present the stakes, and firsts, and tell a visually spectacular and dramatic story – a story that inspires the next generation of explorers and adventurers committed to protecting and preserving our oceans.”

The ship has two submersibles, a helicopter, marine science labs and a media studio.

The Hexadome Experience

The Hexadome Experience is an activation from National Geographic during D23 featuring giant screens surrounding guests in the shape of a hexagon. The short video presentation features over 25 different series, films and documentaries from National Geographic, showing off the beauty of our world. The ISM Hexadome included 52 speakers and 6 screens, immersing attendees with over 500 spatial audio channels and clips.

National Graphic collaborated with Little Cinema on the project with Sam Gill and Luke Neher as directors. The experience featured series like Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory, Free Solo, JANE, Queens, A Real Bugs Life, Welcome to Earth and more.

On August 9th, Friday at D23’s Disney Entertainment showcase, Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho were on stage to promote the upcoming film from Walt Disney Animation Studios and reveal to fans the new trailer. Fans will be excited to see the return of the gang including Moana, Maui, Heihei and Pua.

During the studio showcase, Cravalho performed live on stage one of the film’s new songs, “We’re Back,” with dancers and drummers from Nonosina Polynesia. The Polynesian performance was directed by Tiana Liufau, who was pivotal in the animation reference choreography for the original and sequel.

About Moana 2

Joining Johnson and Cravalho are returning stars Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma, Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother, Sina). The film also features the voices of Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele and Loto, respectively. Awhimai Fraser voices mysterious new character Matangi; Gerald Ramsey plays Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa; and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda lends her voice to Moana’s adoring and adorable little sister, Simea.

Synopsis: Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” features music by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa‘i, and Mark Mancina. Jared Bush and Miller are writing the film, which is executive produced by Jennifer Lee, Bush and Johnson.

Moana 2 releases in theaters on November 27, 2024.

The Ravensburger booth at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event will have the newest Disney Lorcana TCG set Shimmering Skies (on sale starting Friday, August 9, 2024), tabletop games (Chronicles of Light: Darkness Falls [Disney Edition] and Disney Villainous: Intro to Evil), and puzzles featuring Disney’s Stitch and the Disney Castle Collection.

D23 Expo, the ultimate Disney fan event, will once again head to Anaheim on August 9-11, 2024. Of course, there will be fun activities that con-goers are used to including exhibits, panels, shows and shopping at Anaheim Convention Center. Additionally, D23 will be taking over the Disneyland Resort, the Honda Center, Angel Stadium and more. It’s going to be a huge event celebrating Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and more.

On Sunday, August 4th, the Angel Stadium will invite D23 fans to attend the Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Mets game.

Thursday, August 8: D23 will kick off the celebration at Disneyland Resort.

From Friday, August 9 to Sunday, August 11, D23 Expo will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center with shopping, exhibits, panels, and presentations. More excitement awaits in the evening at the Honda Center, which is home to big shows.

Tickets for D23 Expo 2024 will be available in Spring 2024, with ticketing options for access to the Anaheim Convention Center and the Honda Center. D23 Day at Angel Stadium and the D23 kickoff celebration at Disneyland Resort will be separate ticketed events.
