Imagine playing a video game using a top-secret device where you feel like you’re actually there. This world has HUD displays and amazing tech, and your character is, of course, a badass. Now, what if this open world is actually the real world in the future? That’s the premise for The Peripheral, a sci-fi drama series set in the distant future and far future starring Chloë Grace Moretz as a gamer who finds out the virtual world she’s inside of is actually real.

Prime Video has announced today that the show has been greenlit for a second season. From Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films and based on the novel of the same name by William Gibson, The Peripheral follows Moretz as Flynn Fisher as she tries to help out her family while dealing with a catastrophe in the future.

“We are thrilled to continue the journey into Season Two and delve deeper into the incredible world that Gibson created,” said Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, Kilter Films. “On behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali, and the entire team, we’re grateful to our partners at Amazon and, most of all, to the fans.”

“William’s mind-bending story in partnership with the brilliant minds of Scott and Jonathan and Lisa, produced an unforgettable journey for our global audience and we are thrilled with how they embraced the series,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios. “We look forward to extending our partnership with Warner Bros. and Kilter Films as this uniquely ambitious series continues to unfold.”
