Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been working on the Black Adam film project for many years, and it will finally hit theaters this year in October. The footage released during the recent DC Fandome shows how ruthless the titular character can be, and the filmmakers are pushing the boundaries of the film’s PG-13 rating. Today, the trailer for Black Adam has been released via Warner Bros. and Dwayne Johnson, and it gives audiences a taste of the power of the anti-hero. You can check out the trailer below.

As for the film’s PG-13 rating, director Jaume Collet-Serra gives an update.

“We’ll find out because we still haven’t submitted the movie to the rating board,” Collet-Serra tells Nerd Reactor. “It hasn’t been rated yet. So far we are going for that line and that limit. And I think through undercutting some of the moments with comedy, and also the visual effects not being so graphic, we could get away with a lot.”

“There are a lot of movies these days that, I think, use the same technique,” he continued. “They’re pushing that limit. But we don’t want to go into distasteful things. If you go into an R rating, I think that it’s not just about the graphic nature of things. You also have to elevate the tone in terms of like, the themes of the movie, you know, in our base, our theme is family. And it’s about hero versus anti-hero. And I think that story can be held perfectly in a PG-13 world. But we’re pushing it. We’ll figure it out. We’ll get the feedback from the rating board.”

Yesterday, the poster for Black Adam was released. It features the profile of the anti-hero with the tagline, “The world needed a hero. It got Black Adam.”
