George Miller Is Back with Three Thousand Years of Longing Trailer

George Miller is known for directing the Mad Max franchise, and the last film he directed, Mad Max: Fury Road, garnered praises from critics with a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and received a CinemaScore of B+. It’s been a while since we’ve seen something new from the director, and it’s been 7 years and counting. That changes today since MGM Pictures has released the official trailer for Miller’s upcoming film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, which stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.

A trippy poster was also released this week featuring Idris Elba’s Djinn covering Swinton’s Dr. Binnie.

About Three Thousand Years of Longing

Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.

This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

The film is directed and co-written by George Miller and written by Augusta Gore, based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S. Byatt. It’s executive produced by Dean Hood, Craig McMahon, Kevin Sun with music by Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road, Alita: Battle Angel).
