Attendees at the Disney presentation were surprised with footage of the opening act for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It starts off with the Marvel logo, and then we see a shot of another Doctor Strange and America Chavez running away from a demon. As it turns out, the young woman is pivotal in the demon’s plans since she has the power to travel to different universes.

The footage also shows what Doctor Strange and Wong have been up to since Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. We also see what’s been happening with Rachel McAdam’s Christine Palmer, who’s getting married to another man. Strange is clearly saddened by these events, but his duty as a superhero supersedes everything else.

Our version of Doctor Strange encounters America Chavez in his universe, and he saves her while fighting a creature that looks like Shuma Gorath. Wong also comes to help, and together they try to figure out who America Chavez is and more information on the multiverse.

The footage then cuts to Wanda as she is raising her two sons with a music motif inspired by WandaVision. It was all a dream, and Wanda woke up sad and lonely. Later in the day, Doctor Strange meets up with her outside where she is tending to trees. He needs her help because of his immense powers. It then cuts to a montage of cool moments.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.

Pixar’s Lightyear

Next up we have Lightyear, the movie that’s set in the world of Toy Story. Attendees were treated to 30 minutes of the opening, and it starts off by explaining that the movie is the one that got Andy excited about the Buzz Lightyear action figure.

As the opening starts, we’re introduced to Captain Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans) and Commander Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba). The duo goes on a mission to save their planet, which is hostile thanks to tentacle monsters attacking at any moment. There are jokes about how Buzz isn’t a fan of auto-pilot navigation and rookies.

Later down the line, Buzz takes it upon himself to complete the mission of helping out the settlers in a strange new world. The problem is that whenever he tries to solve the problem and returns back to the planet, everyone around him ages some years while he remains the same.

Buzz is not the one to give up and travels in search of solutions, but every time he returns, his colleagues grow older and older. Commander Hathorne grows older and the captain comes back to her when she’s pregnant, raising a son, and at the son’s graduation, all while still being the same age. It’s a sad moment and Hawthorne later dies of old age. Buzz tears up when he looks at an old photo of himself and Hawthorne.

The footage ends with Buzz breaking the rules to go on one final mission with the help of Sox, the robot cat and companion. Sox is definitely going to be a fan-favorite character when the film comes out. He’s easily the funniest character in the film as a very helpful robot cat.

Lightyear will hit theaters on June 12, 2022.

Avatar: The Way of the Water

The last film during the presentation was Avatar: The Way of the Water. The trailer was shown and was introduced by producer Jon Landau, who flew in yesterday from New Zealand. He’ll be flying out tomorrow, but he believes in the importance of the cinema-going experience. Guests were given Dolby 3D glasses to experience the trailer for the Avatar sequel.

The trailer features new and old characters and new locations on land and in the water. It wasn’t that exciting since it was a teaser trailer, especially if you’re already familiar with the Na’vi. The footage shown did have a high framerate to keep the motion smooth for the 3D experience.

These are the main highlights of the Disney presentation at CinemaCon 2022.
