The Batman was well received by critics and fans alike, and it has grossed over $759 million worldwide at the box office. Today at CinemaCon, Warner Bros officially announces that Matt Reeves will be back to direct The Batman 2 with Robert Pattinson back as the Caped Crusador.

Warner Bros Chairman Toby Emmerich introduced Matt Reeves to the stage at the Colosseum in Las Vegas. He made a brief appearance at CinemaCon, the convention catered towards theater owners. It was a short presentation on the film, and since things are still in the early stages, there was nothing shown during the Warner Bros’ Big Picture presentation.

Matt Reeves has started penning the script for the Batman sequel with Dylan Clark returning to produce.

The news comes after the announcement that HBO Max is working on a series following The Penguin with Colin Farrell returning as the crime boss. There’s also the upcoming animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader” with Reeves teaming up with J.J. Abrams and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).

About The Batman

Synopsis: Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The film is directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon.
