The second season of Netflix’s highly popular Regency-era London series, Bridgerton, is now available, and it focuses on Viscount Bridgerton, the oldest son and head of the family, as he tries to find love and a wife.

Series creator Chris Van Dusen says that the second season brings back the sexy and scandalous elements from the first season.

“Fans should expect a wild, wild ride this season,” Van Dusen said during the press conference. “I mean, we worked really hard to bring everything that fans fell in love with about season one into season two. And I think we did it. And it’s amazing. It’s emotional and romantic and sexy and scandalous. And I think we’re back for an even greater escape into 19th century Regency London.”

Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony Bridgerton, shares where his character’s journey is after the end of the first season.

“So we start the season with Anthony making a callous decision that he needs to find a wife, but only to find one that would suit him on the page and not, you know, link up with his heart and his love,” Bailey said. “He’s taken love out of the equation. And he’s had this quite complicated sort of mistress affair in series one and yeah, he’s shaved off his sideburns, and he’s ready to go.”

Simone Ashley plays Kate, a newcomer in the series who will do anything to stop the Viscount from courting her younger sister Edwina, played by Charithra Chandran. Ashley talks about how she was welcomed behind the scenes.

“I mean, a lot of Instagram, DM sliding, I would say,” Ashley said. Yeah, but everyone in the cast was so warm and welcoming, and just sent a message. Just being understanding of how overwhelming and exciting it could feel. It was really, you know, ‘Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.'”

The new season also sheds some more light on Queen Charlotte and her own love story. Golda Rosheuvel plays the Queen, and she shares what fans can expect.

“Well, I think the love story for her is obviously with her beautiful, gorgeous husband who is going through some deep trauma,” Rosheuvel said. “And I think I’m really grateful for those scenes because we could have written a one-dimensional character who has fabulous rocks and beautiful wigs who goes to the balls and does gossip, all that kind of stuff. But you get to see her humanity. You get to see her vulnerability in those scenes. And to play that as an actress is everything because you want to play a full-rounded character. So yeah, we’ve got some really beautiful scenes in season in season two.”

About Bridgerton Season 2

From Shondaland and Creator Chris Van Dusen, the second season of Bridgerton follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.

Bridgerton is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen. Dusen also serves as the showrunner.

Bridgerton Season 2 debuted on Netflix on March 25, 2022.
