Peele’s ‘Nope’ Super Bowl Trailer Has Us Looking Up

“What’s a bad miracle?”

From the moment we first set eyes upon his 2017 social commentary masterpiece, Get Out, Jordan Peele has kept us on the edge of his seats with his work. Nearly a year since its announcement, fans have been left in the dark regarding what his upcoming project Nope was about.

Rumors swirled as to whether this was going to follow in the same vein as his previous works, or depart from the racial-centric focus and create something new. Well it looks like we got both.

Early this morning on the eve of football’s most sacred day, Peele took to Instagram to finally drop the long-awaited yet still confusing trailer prior to kick-off. Shortly thereafter, the intra-webs was ablaze all over as Universal Studios released the non-vertical version that would send fans and cinephiles into a frenzy!

The trailer, running at 2 minutes and 11 seconds, depicts several elements of the Peele-style filmmaking, showcasing cryptic imagery and confused looks that only drive movie fans crazier. Peele doing what Peele does best, the trailer still keeps its cards close to its chest as we are exposed to a world terrified by what divisive fans are speculating as either an intelligent cloud or a higher life-form. One thing remains, however: Jordan Peele has us still on the edge of our seats, nonetheless.

Directed by Jordan Peele, and under his Monkeypaw Productions banner, Nope stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun, and is doomed to take over the world July 22., 2021.
