Buzz Lightyear is a beloved character from the Toy Story franchise, who started off as a rival and then became a dear friend to Woody. The space action figure is a popular toy in the Toy Story universe, and it’s inspired by the fictional Buzz Lightyear character who had his own movie. Yeah, it can get confusing. Pixar and Disney have decided to bring that adventure to life with Lightyear, and fans will get to experience what Andy did when he watched Buzz’s adventures for the first time. Earlier today, a new trailer has been released, and it gives us a glimpse of the action and characters featured in the 3D-animated film.

Check out the official trailer below for Lightyear.

Expect to see Buzz face off against his evil nemesis, Emperor Zurg, as he goes on a faraway mission. In Toy Story 2, it was revealed that Zurg is Buzz’s father (definitely inspired by Star Wars). Will this be the case for Lightyear?

Buzz also had his own 2D animated series called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, which was released in 2000. With the Lightyear film, it looks like the filmmakers aren’t relying on the show for the story and characters.
