The Witcher Season 2: Understanding All Key Locations in Netflix Series

The Witcher Season 2 arrived on Netflix on December 17, and it had our protagonists travel across the Continent. It’s a big world in The Witcher, and it’s home to the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire. We’ve compiled a list of all the key locations featured in the second season of the series so that newcomers can understand more of this huge world.

The Continent

The Continent is a huge unnamed land featuring many kingdoms like Cintra, Temeria, Redania, Nilfgaard and more.

Above is Cintra, the capital city of Cintra, an important kingdom in the world of The Witcher. This was Ciri’s home until the empire of Nilfgaard conquered it. In the second season of The Witcher, Nilfgaard gifted the elves Cintra, which they reclaimed as Xin’trea.

Cintra is also the location of a monolith that was shattered by Ciri in the first season. Geralt and Istredd travel to the fault lines and discover that these ancient monoliths are gateways for monsters to enter the Continent.

The city of Cintra is located northwest of Cintra. The kingdom is located below Redania.


King Vizimir is the king of Rediania, a wealthy kingdom with known cities like Oxenfurt and the free city of Novigrad. Many parts of Redania were featured in the second season including Nivellen’s Manor. It’s located in the northwest side of the Continent.


Temeria is a kingdom ruled by King Foltest, and it lies south of Redania. It’s the location of many places featured in the series including Aretuza, Sodden Hill, Ellander, and Gors Velen.


Nilfgaard is the southern empire looking to expand north. It’s ruled by Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, who made his grand entrance in the second season finale of the series.

Nivellen’s Manor

Nivellen’s manor is featured in the first episode of the second season. Nivellen is a man who turned into a beast due to a curse, and his story is inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Geralt and Ciri drop by his manor on their way to Kaer Morhen.

Nivellen’s Manor is located in the woods in Redania near the city of Murivel.

Kaer Morhen

The Witcher Season 2's Kaer Morhen

Kaer Morhen is prominently featured in The Witcher Season 2, and it’s an old fortress belonging to the witchers of the School of the Wolf. Geralt of Rivia was raised here by his mentor, Vesemir, who looks after the keep in the winter. Geralt takes Ciri here to protect her along with teaching her swordplay.

Kaer Morhen is located northeast of the kingdom of Kaedwen and is tucked away in the mountains of Hertch along the Gwenllech river.


The Witcher Season 2's Aretuza

Here is Aretuza on the mainland and Tower of the Gull on Thanned Island. In the books, it’s located on Thanedd Island. Aretuza was the location where the mages gathered together to discuss the aftermath of The Battle of Sodden Hill, the climactic battle in season 1. This was also the area where the rulers of the Northern Kingdoms gathered to watch the execution of Cahir, the Nilfgaardian officer. Instead of executing him, Yennefer of Vengerberg breaks his bonds and helps him flee.

Aretuza is a magical academy located northwest of Temeria and is near Gors Velen.

Gors Velen

The Witcher Season 2's Gors Velen

Gors Velen is a port city near Aretuza in Temeria, and it’s one of the most important trade cities in The Continent. Yennefer and Cahir are on the run here, and they try to stay hidden by wearing a bright, purple cloak and a green cloak, respectively.

Gors Velen is shown here on the coast and is northwest of Temeria.


The Witcher Season 2's Oxenfurt

Fans are sure to be excited to see Oxenfurt, especially The Witcher 3 fans. The Redanian city is known for Oxenfurt Academy, which is the biggest academy in the Northern Kingdoms. Jaskier graduated with summa cum laude honors and studied the seven liberal arts.

In The Witcher Season 2, Yennefer and Cahir traveled underground from Gors Velen to Oxenfurt, and that’s when she sees Jaskier performing inside a tavern.

Oxenfurt is located southwest of Redania just east of Novigrad.

Melitele’s Temple

The Temple of MeliteleIt is run by Nenneke, a priestess who helps those in need in the Northern Kingdoms. Geralt takes Ciri here to help her study.

The Temple of Melitele is located in the kingdom of Temeria in Ellander, a city northeast of Vizima.
