Dune is the highly anticipated film from director Denis Villeneuve, and it’s based on the sci-fi book that has inspired generations. It has already been released in international markets like France, Germany, Italy, and Iceland, and it has already grossed over $103 million. It will be released in the U.S. later this month, and to get fans hyped up for the film, a new manga-style poster has been released.

This Dune poster, which you can see below, is influenced by manga. It’s created by illustrator Posuka Demizu, who is known for her illustrations for The Promised Neverland. Even Villeneuve had great things to say about it.

Art by Posuka Demizu

“Posuka Demizu’s art is deeply moving because she embraces the look of the characters and the spirit of the movie, but makes it her own,” Villeneuve said. “There is something special about the way she plays with the gravity and the dynamic of the drawing; I think it’s very beautiful and poetic. For me, it’s a gift.”

About Dune

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve and Eric Roth, which is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune.

The film stars Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise), Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“The Suicide Squad,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).

Dune will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021. It will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from the theatrical release.
