The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are films meant to be seen on the big screen, and that includes giant 4K TV screens. To truly appreciate the look of the film in high resolution, Peter Jackson and his team have remastered the films for 4K. A 4K collection was released last year in time for the holiday season, and for those who waited, the ultimate collection is coming soon with the Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition. This beefy collection includes both the theatrical and extended editions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films.

The Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be available on October 26, and it retails for $249.99. It will include 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital, as well as extras. You can now pre-order the Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition here on Amazon.

Premium Gift Box

The blue collectible foil box holds the exclusive content from the Ultimate Collector’s Edition. It includes an exclusive Blu-ray bonus disc featuring the Alamo Drafthouse The Lord of the Rings Cast Reunions, an event honoring the 20th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy with Stephen Colbert as the host. There’s also the Festival de Cannes Presentation Reel. The box also includes 7 travel poster art cards and a 64-page booklet of costume sketches, photography and production notes.

The discs are encased inside slipcases, and they can be displayed and folded in different ways, giving you options on how you want to show them off. The above image shows the slipcases illustrated side with Elvish writing. Below, you can sort them out like books inside a bookshelf.

No Appendices?

The Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition is huge and contains 31 discs, which includes the theatrical and extended versions on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. Observant fans may notice the lack of appendices, which may be a dealbreaker based on the $249.99 pricing. For example, The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, which includes both the Extended and Theatrical, is currently on sale for $69.99, and if you were to add The Hobbit Trilogy (retails for $89.99), the total would be $159.98. Of course, it doesn’t include the extras and Blu-ray discs, but if you’re getting the 4K collection, odds are you don’t care about the films on Blu-ray. That leaves with just the cool boxes, booklet and poster art cards.

Is this a dealbreaker for you, or are you still excited to get the Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition? Let us know in the comments below.

If that’s not enough Tolkien for you, there will be a The Lord of the Rings Illustration Edition Hardcover, which is available now for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of November 2, 2021.
