Battlefield 2042 coming October 22 and features up to 128 players

EA and DICE have announced that their next first-person shooter will be set in the future. The studio plans to revolutionize the modern multiplayer sandbox with Battlefield 2042, which will have players battling each other in the near future with up to 128 players on the PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users will get to play with up to 64 players with reduced map size. Real-time events will create dynamic moments in battlefield and combat, along with new weapons, vehicles, and gadgets.

Synopsis: In Battlefield 2042, the world is on the brink. Shortages of food, energy, and clean water have led to dozens of failed nations, creating the greatest refugee crisis in human history. Among these Non-Patriated, or No-Pats, are families, farmers, engineers – and even soldiers. Amidst this crisis, the United States and Russia draw the world into an all-out war. No-Pat Specialists join both sides, not fighting for a flag, but for the future of the Non-Patriated in this new world.

As Specialists, players will control a new type of playable soldier that’s inspired by the traditional four Battlefield classes. They will have unique Specialist Trait and Specialty and fully customizable loadouts and access to new weapons, equipment, and vehicles.

“Battlefield 2042 is an evolution of the franchise and embraces what our players want – the ultimate Battlefield multiplayer sandbox with intense combat and a ton of incredible, unexpected events,” said Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of DICE. “All of us across DICE in Stockholm, DICE LA, Criterion, and EA Gothenburg have had so much fun developing this game and now it’s time to let players jump in. What they’ll find is that we’ve built three distinct, absolutely epic experiences that we think they’ll love.”

Along with All-Out Warfare with up to 128 players on the PC and new consoles, there’s the Hazard Zone, a new squad-based game-type for the Battlefield franchise that plays differently from All-Out Warfare’s Conquest or Breakthrough modes.

A third to-be-announced experience will be developed by DICE LA, which is described as a love letter to Battlefield fans and long-time players. More info will be revealed during EA Play Live on July 22.

Battlefield 2042 will be available on October 22 for $59.99 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and $69.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. EA Play members will get a 10-hour trial starting on October 15, 2021. EA Play members and players who pre-order will have access to Open Beta.
