Huluween Film Fest short “Swiped To Death” shows the dark side of modern-day dating

Huluween Film Fest - Swiped to Death

When it comes to Halloween programming, Hulu does things a little bit differently. This year, the streaming service is premiering festival darling, Little Monsters, starring Lupita Nyong’o. Also, this year Hulu is premiering a lot of their horror Originals such as “Castle Rock” and “Into the Dark”. However, it’s Hulu’s annual Halloween film contest, Huluween Film Fest, is what completely differentiates itself from other streaming services.

For the second year, Hulu is releasing seven new horror shorts from up-and-coming indie filmmakers. Along with the Sundance Institute, the seven shorts will compete against each other on Hulu and Hulu’s YouTube channel. Finally, the short with the highest level of engagement on both platforms will win $50,000 towards the production of their feature-length film.

One of those shorts features the horrors of modern-day dating. Swiped to Death follows Olivia, a woman who “swipes right” on a handsome stranger. As a result, this “causes her world to collide with hidden danger”. Director Elaine Mongeon and co-writer and producer Glen Zipper are the filmmakers responsible behind the short.

Mongeon is a producer turned director/writer, currently collaborating with Glen Zipper on their first sci-fi novel Devastation Class, to be released by Blink (an imprint of HarperCollins). Zipper is a former assistant prosecutor who’s now a documentary producer (Netflix’s “Dogs”, HBO’s “Muhammad Ali”).
