Crunchyroll announces new partnership with VIZ Media Europe Group

Since its launch back in 2006, Crunchyroll has grown to become a global anime brand. Today, Crunchyroll, a subsidiary of Otter Media (a WarnerMedia company), has announced its brand new agreement with VIZ Media Europe Group. This newly signed agreement will join Crunchyroll’s global platform with VIZ Media’s wide network of partners, distributors, and licensees.

For the past 13 years, Crunchyroll has amassed a community of more than 50 million registered users while providing a variety of content. Crunchyroll provides more than 1000 licensed anime titles on its streaming platform across multiple devices. These titles are professionally translated into eight languages which are available in both their subscription-video-on-demand and advertising-based-video-on-demand.

Along with streaming fan-favorite animes, Crunchyroll also provides yearly events for its fan base such as the Anime Awards and Crunchyroll Expo. They launch consumer products that give their fans the chance to represent their favorite shows. Crunchyroll Games brings some of the most adored titles to mobile phones, and the Crunchyroll Manga allows users to read the latest titles directly on their mobile phones.

Joanne Waage, general manager of Crunchyroll said:

“Crunchyroll and VIZ Media Europe Group will bring together significant expertise, capabilities, and dedication to grow and promote our respective licensed and original content. We look forward to learning from and collaborating with our new colleagues in Paris, Lausanne, and Berlin, so we can continuously create the most engaging experiences for anime and manga communities around the world.”

VIZ Media Europe Group, which is comprised of VIZ Media Europe (VME), AV Visionen, Anime Versand, and VIZ Media Switzerland (VMS), licenses and distributes Japanese content for the EMEA region. They provide content for EMEA TV through VME and VMS, which gives more than 40,000 hours of animation for all ages. They have held successful Anime rendezvous at theaters in Europe and German-speaking territories. They have a line of consumer products, manga publishing, and DVD Home Entertainment.

“We have built a large network in EMEA and beyond, expanding our manga and licensing expertise through multiple skills in various business lines: TV, DVD, Digital & Merchandising,” said Kazuyoshi Takeuchi, CEO of VIZ Media Europe Group. “Over the last decade, our team has shown a deep understanding of Japanese pop culture and adaptation within local markets, and I believe this relationship will strengthen our position and future growth, adapting to changes in the dynamic Japanese animation industry and global business climate.”

This new agreement will make Crunchyroll the majority investor in VIZ Media Group, with minority stakes being held by Hitotsubashi Group.
