WandaVision will be a half sitcom, half epic MCU adventure

During D23 Expo 2019, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took to the stage to announce and give updates on upcoming movies and shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios has been dominating the box office, and soon it will be releasing original content on Disney+. During the streaming service panel, audiences were given more updates and announcements for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, What If…?, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight. One particular show that got the crowd excited was WandaVision, and there’s a new art piece released from artist Andy Park.

During the Disney+ panel, Feige introduced Jac Schaeffer and Matt Shakman. Schaeffer will be writing the first episode and serve as the showrunner, with Shakman as the director. What’s interesting to note is that the music playing in the background during their introduction sounds like something from a sitcom.

“It’s called WandaVision, and it’s got Wanda and Vision,” Shakman said, knowing that he couldn’t reveal much in front of Kevin Feige and the audiences.

“I can’t say much,” Feige added. “We haven’t started shooting yet. We’re hard at work prepping, but we did want to bring something for you guys to show you a little bit about the tone and to give you a flavor of the piece.”

The footage heavily featured footage of The Dick Van Dyke Show with weird glitches sprinkled throughout. It’s definitely a headscratcher.

“We’re very much inspired by Disney legend Dick Van Dyke, Schaeffer said. “It’s going to be a series that Marvel fans have never seen before. It’s half classic sitcom and half-full epic MCU spectacular.”

“Half sitcom, half epic MCU adventure,” Feige added with excitement. “That sounds like something you can only get on Disney+. It is strangely cool.”

Joining Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision are Teyonah Parris as adult Monica Rambeau, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, and Kathryn Hahn as the “nosy neighbor.”

WandaVision will premiere on Disney+ in 2021.
