New Gods director Ava DuVernay confirms Darkseid, plus casting hints

Darkseid New Gods

In the Justice League film, Steppenwolf was the main antagonist who wreaked havoc to obtain the Mother Boxes to take over the world. He’s a New God, a race from the twin planets, New Genesis and Apokolips. Soon audiences will get to see other members from that race in New Gods. Warner Bros. brought Ava DuVernay on board to direct the upcoming DC film, which was reported to feature Darkseid. During a Twitter AMA, she confirms that both Darkseid and Female Furies will be in it. In addition, she hints that the cast from her previous film is likely to have a role in the DC film.

Darkseid being featured in a DC film called New Gods shouldn’t be that surprising, but it’s nice to hear the confirmation from DuVernay herself.

In the Twitter AMA, Ava DuVernay was asked about whether they would see a cast member from When They See Us in New Gods. The director says that there’s a big chance that it’s going to happen.

“In each of my narrative projects since my first film entitled I Will Follow, I bring over an actor from the last project I made,” DuVernay tweeted. “So, yes, there is a 99.9% chance this will happen again.”

When They See Us has all kinds of actors, from unknowns to popular actors. John Leguizamo (John Wick) and Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire) are both featured in the film. Could they end up in New Gods?

The film is being written by DuVernay and Tom King, a CIA operative who then went on to write for DC Comics.
