SDCC 2019: Top Gun: Maverick brings back Maverick and the danger zone in new trailer

Top Gun: Maverick teaser poster

33 years. It’s been 33 long years since we’ve last seen Maverick flying the F-14A Tomcat fighter in Top Gun. Now, it’s time for Maverick to take to the skies once again. At the end of the Terminator: Dark Fate panel, Conan O’Brien came out to introduce one of the biggest movie stars in the entire world. Since this is Conan O’Brien, no one took him too seriously. Yet once he uttered the words Tom and Cruise, the entire crowd went ballistic. He came out and told the fans that they shot a movie right across the street from Hall H. That movie was Top Gun. Then, he premiered the brand new trailer for the very first time inside Hall H. Yes, all these years later we finally have our first look at the long-awaited sequel.

Rumor has it that drones will play a huge part in the film’s plotline. Judging from the teaser trailer, there are a lot of strong hints that drones or pilotless jets will be the main antagonist this time around. However, whether or not they can do a better job than Stealth remains to be seen. My guess (and hope) that it will be better but we will see.

Another crazy tidbit about the trailer comes from all of the up close and personal shots of Tom Cruise within the cockpit of the fighter jet. Now, we all know what kind of actor Tom Cruise is. He is VERY dedicated to his craft and very dedicated to doing his own stunts. We all know this from his work on the Mission: Impossible series. Be that as it may, piloting a fighter jet is completely different than flying a helicopter. Yet if word comes out that he was flying the fighter jet then it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

What do you think of the trailer? Was it worth the 33-year wait?
