The ‘Bug Bar’ from Snowpiercer will be available at San Diego Comic-Con

Snowpiercer bug bar

Snowpiercer is an apocalyptic sci-fi thriller where humanity survives inside a moving train called the Snowpiercer. If you’ve seen the film, then you should know of the delicious food treat that has been feeding the inhabitants of the train. As it turns out, the food that’s keeping the poor people of the Snowpiercer alive is actually made of bugs. Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, TBS is working on adapting the franchise as a live-action series. To help promote the series at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, TBS is teaming up with EXO to distribute for the first and only time the “Bug Bars” via vending machines.

The “Bug Bar” is created by EXO, which is owned by Aspire Food Group, and the special protein bars will contain cricket protein powder. (On second that, I think I’ll pass.) To receive the bar and a special piece of Snowpiercer content, simply enter your email address into the vending machine.

The vending machine with the “Bug Bar” will be available from Thursday, July 18, through Sunday, July 21, at TBS’s Snowpiercer Booth 4215 inside the San Diego Convention Center.

And yes, it looks like it’ll actually contain bug parts.

“It’s a thrill for me, as co-founder and CEO of a company dedicated to normalizing the consumption of insects in the western world, to have this chance for so many to taste a part of the Snowpiercer story I’m such a fan of while hopefully joining the two billion people who already consider insects a normal cuisine,” said Mohammed Ashour, co-founder and CEO of Aspire Food Group. “Our Snowpiercer cricket bars have a solid texture and ingredients like peanuts and strawberries so the taste is more familiar while you’re trying something new. I wouldn’t typically consider a custom product partnership, but the alignment of Snowpiercer with Aspire’s own path of radical technology solutions to the real-world challenges of food insecurity and climate change made for a perfect partnership.”

*Allergy Warning: please note cricket products may trigger crustacean and shellfish allergies and contain peanuts, almonds and coconuts.

There will also be a Snowpiercer panel on Saturday, July 20 with stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Mickey Summer, Lena Hall, Steven Ogg, and executive producer and showrunner Graeme Manson from 3 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

Synopsis: Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation, produced by Tomorrow Studios (a partnership between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios), based on the acclaimed movie of the same name. The series, which has been renewed for a season two, will debut in Spring of 2020 on TBS.
