Paul Rudd joins Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters

Prepared to get slimed!

Paul Rudd (yes, THE Paul Rudd) has joined Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters film! The ageless actor confirmed the news on social media today while in front of the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse located in New York City.

The film, which has no association to the 2016 film, will be a continuation of the first two Ghostbusters film. Ghostbusters 2020 is written and directed Reitman, son of the 1984 film Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Gil Kenan serves as co-writer and Ivan Reitman will serve as producer.

According to Variety, the new film centers on a single mom (played by The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon) and her children (Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard and Captain Marvel‘s Mckenna Grace) and Rudd playing a local teacher.

The film is also in talks with several of the original cast members to make an appearance – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver. Weaver did reveal to Parade of her excitement in returning to the franchise. Ghostbusters 2020 will pay tribute to Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler, and co-wrote the first two films.

Ghostbusters 2020 is produced by Sony Pictures and will be released sometime in 2020.
