Universal to host exclusive pop-up special for Danny Boyle’s Yesterday

With the popularity of films such as last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody and the recent Rocket Man, the musical genre is coming back to the silver screen with ample tunes to get you grooving in your seat. Later this month is the release of Yesterday, a musical comedy based on the sounds of the Beatles, one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands in history.

To celebrate the upcoming movie and of course it jaunty tunes, Universal Pictures will be holding a special pop-up event in Los Angeles on June 20th. This pop-up event will also be the exclusive record release party for the film, which hits theaters on June 28, 2019. The event will take place at the preserved Tower Records on the famous Sunset Strip.

Yesterday follows the story of Jack Malik, a struggling musician who just can’t quite seem to make his dreams become reality. After a freak accident, Jack wakes up to find that nobody, not a single person in the world remembers who the Beatles are, except for Jack. He begins to perform the Beatles countless hits and passes them as his own, which suddenly catapults him into the global spotlight. But as Jacks’ dreams of a music career come into fruition, his relationship with his childhood friend Ellie begins to fade, who is the one person who’s always believed in him.

This film is written by Richard Curtis (Pirate Radio, About Time) from a story by Jack Barth. Yesterday is directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) and distributed by Universal Pictures. It stars Himesh Patel as Jack Malik, along with Lily James, Kate McKinnon, Ana de Armas, and Ed Sheeran.
