Avengers: Endgame hopes to beat Avatar with re-release and new footage

Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame is so close to beating Avatar’s total box office record worldwide, and it is just short of around $45 million. Avatar has grossed $2.788 billion and Avengers: Endgame has grossed $2.743 billion. The latest Marvel Studios film is still in theaters, and during the last weekend, it has earned $3.725 million domestically. To help give the biggest Marvel film a little push to topple Avatar, Marvel Studios is planning to re-release it with new footage.

The re-release version of Avengers: Endgame is likely going to be released next weekend, but it will see competition from Toy Story 4 and Child’s Play’s second weekend in theaters. The new footage will help entice fans to come back to the theaters.

“We are doing that,” Feige tells ComicBook.com about a new Endgame re-release with new footage. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”

The weekend of June 28th will have Avengers: Endgame competing against Yesterday and Annabelle Comes Home. And then there’s the second weekend for Toy Story 4 and Child’s Play, so it’s going to be very busy. But it’s a better spot since it’ll get people ready again for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits theaters on July 2 just in time for Independence Day weekend.

Will the new footage entice fans to come back to theaters? Is the re-released version enough for fans wanting to help bump Avengers: Endgame up to take over Avatar‘s spot? We’ll have to wait and see.

Synopsis: The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from the screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. It stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.

Avengers: Endgame is now in theaters.
