The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, “The Bells,” had the internet buzzing. It was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics, especially with what the writers did to Daenerys Targaryen. Even with the audiences and critics split, the episode still did amazing with the viewership numbers, garnering 12.5 million viewers in the U.S. and making it the most-viewed episode by far.

The last episode that had the most views was the finale to season seven, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” which had 12.07 million viewers. It’s no surprise to hear that “The Bells” episode is breaking the record since it is the second-to-last episode of Game of Thrones. We’re going to predict that the very last episode ever for the show will do even better.

Showrunners David Benioff & D. B. Weiss have been under fire from critics of the recent seasons since that’s when the writers have been deviating from the works of George R. R. Martin. The author is still working on the second-to-last book, “The Winds of Winter,” and the last book, “A Dream of Spring,” won’t be worked on until the previous one is done. Season 8 was mainly written by Benioff and Weiss, and the finale episode will have them tackle the writing and directing. It’s going to be a herculean task to bring the series to a close after many years of political turmoil.

Spoilers Ahead for Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 “The Bells”

Some of the gripes from the critics include Dany turning into a heel, the fate of Cersei and Jamie Lannister, and the inconsistencies with the Scorpion, the dragon-killing weapon. It’s likely that fans are going to be split again, but one thing is for sure, the final episode is going to be the talk of the town and will likely set a new record for the HBO show.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 6 will be the last episode for the series, and it will air on HBO May 19, 2019.
