Petition demands Brie Larson to step down as Captain Marvel to give gay woman of color a chance

Brie Larson, who can be seen as Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame, has been very vocal in her support of minority groups. She made a comment about how there were too many white men at press events, saying that there should be more women and people of color. Her comments have led to upset fans wanting to boycott the Captain Marvel film, like leaving negative comments on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film has made over $1 billion, making Marvel Studios very happy in the process. Now a petition has been created that demands Brie Larson to put her money where her mouth. It wants her to step down as Captain Marvel and help a gay woman of color get the chance to portray the female superhero.

The Petition, created by Spike Valentine, urges Brie Larson to step away from her role as Captain Marvel.

“We need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of color plays the role,” the petition says. “Let Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney.”

“She hasn’t donated money to any charity other than The Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation and it’s time for her to show she is not all talk,” the petition continued.

The petition wishes to reach the goal of 4,000 signatures, and at the time of this writing, it has already collected over 3,721 signatures.

Audiences can currently see Brie Larson on the big screen in Avengers: Endgame.

Synopsis: The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

It stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Tessa Thompson as Valkeryie.
