There’s a boycott for Marvel’s rumored gay superhero in The Eternals

The Eternals

There’s a rumor going around that Marvel Studios is looking to cast a gay actor to play an openly gay superhero as one of its lead characters in The Eternals. Marvel’s Victoria Alonso said that the world is ready for an LGBT superhero with Kevin Feige saying that it plans to include one in the MCU, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a comic book movie with a gay superhero. For example, Deadpool 2 featured a lesbian relationship between Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand). What that said, there’s a petition that was created to boycott Marvel Studios from bringing a gay superhero to the big screen.

LifeSiteNews has created a petition that demands Marvel Studios to remove the rumored LGBT superhero from The Eternals. It wants the studio to think about what it’s doing since it might “indoctrinate children with homosexual ideology.” Its goal is to reach 10,000 signatures, and at the time of this writing, it has reached 7,596.

It all started when The Hashtag Show made a report that Marvel Studios is searching for “an actor, 30-49, who ‘physically looks like a superhero’ for one of the film’s leads. While the studio is open to actors of all ethnicity, they would prefer the role go to an openly gay actor.”

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said in an interview with ET that an LGBT superhero was “percolating” for the MCU. During the premiere of Captain Marvel, Marvel production chief Victoria Alonso tells Variety that the studio is committed to “diversity” and in regards to an LGBT superhero, “the world is ready…The world is ready.”

The creators of the petition don’t believe the world is ready. It says, “BUT, children and teens aren’t ready! And, parents of children and teens aren’t ready!”

“For all kinds of reasons, this is wrong, and I will go out of my way to tell all of the parents I know about this, if it comes to pass,” the petition continues.

The creators believe that the homosexual lifestyle is dangerous and filled with physical and mental health issues. It also quoted Spider-Man’s popular line, “With great power comes great responsibility,” asking Marvel Studios to be responsible.

“But, regarding the practice of homosexuality, the real world offers a much harder lesson, based in reality … specifically, a far higher incidence of serious physical and mental health problems among practising homosexuals than among the general population,” the petition states.

“We call on you to safeguard the impressionable minds of children,” the petition added, once again urging Marvel Studios to not create a gay superhero in The Eternals.

The Eternals will be directed by Chloé Zhao from the screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The film is expected to shoot in August 2019 in Atlanta.
