X-Men producer says Marvel Studios will search for new Wolverine actor

The Disney and Fox deal is coming to a close soon this year, and that means Disney will have access to X-Men and Fantastic Four under Marvel Studios. What does Kevin Feige have in store for these characters? Will they be on the big screen, or will they have their own series under Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus? Well, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has revealed a bit about Wolverine during Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Shuler Donner feels that Feige will do right by the X-Men.

“That would be between Fox and Disney,” Shuler Donner said. “Obviously, Kevin and I started the first one. He worked for me. He’s got a great story sense. He’s got a great ability to weave each world and weave those worlds together. I trust him and I trust that he will take care of the X-Men.”

Shuler Donner has a different relationship with Marvel Studios compared to Amy Pascal, the producer for Spider-Man. With Shuler Donner, she’ll be saying goodbye to the X-Men. For Pascal, she’s allowing Marvel Studios to work on Spider-Man.

The producer is also positive that Marvel Studios is looking to bring a new actor to play Wolverine.

“Yes,” she said. “I don’t know what Kevin’s thinking honestly. I don’t even think Kevin knows. I think Kevin’s still dealing with this wealth of characters and trying to make sense of them.”

Jackman has said that Logan would be his last film, and Shuler Donner repeats that sentiment but also says there’s a possibility for his return.

“Yes, because Hugh, just the physicality of it all, just to bulk up,” she said. “This man worked so hard to bulk up, would get up at four in the morning to bulk and eat protein meals every two hours because his natural state, they used to call him Worm when he was a kid. So his natural state is a very skinny guy. Once you reach a certain age, the body just won’t go anymore. I think he was wise to say, ‘I’m at that point. I can’t do it.’ Now, that doesn’t mean he can’t come back as older Wolverine. You never know. Future Wolverine, you never know.”
