Netflix has officially announced that Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Into the Badlands) will be playing Ciri and Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) as Yennefer for its upcoming series, The Witcher. The two characters have been a big part of Geralt’s life in the books and video game. With a younger version of Ciri, it looks like the series is going to be more inspired by the books.

As the Princess of Cintra, Ciri will have a big role, and she’ll be joined by other Cintra court members with Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Queen Calanth, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as her husband and knight Eist, and Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as the druid Mousesack.

With Yennefer joining the roster, magic will be prevalent with MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street, Kill List) as Tissaia, the leader of the magical academy at Aretuza. More sorcerers are joining including Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla and Therica Wilson-Read (Profile) as Sabrina. Millie Brady (The Last Kingdom, Teen Spirit) will be playing outcast Princess Renfri.

So no news yet on if we’ll be getting the sorceress Triss Merigold and the bard Dandelion. And most importantly, who’s going to play Roach, Geralt’s trusty horse? Netflix did reveal that there will be more casting announcements soon.

With that said, Henry Cavill (Justice League, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) is already set to play Geralt of Rivia, a mutant and monster hunter.

The showrunner and executive producer is Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders, Umbrella Academy).

Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones) will be directing four episodes including the first one, with Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Utopia) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart, Disparue) each doing two episodes.

Synopsis: Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
