Adidas unite runners for Run for the Oceans event

Adidas Run for the Oceans

Over the weekend at the Temescal Gateway Park in Los Angeles, Adidas hosted a “5k, Run for the oceans” event, where runners, athletes, celebrities, and environmentalists ran to raise money for the Parley Ocean Plastic program as well as bring awareness to the pollutants that are harming our oceans.

Runners of all levels were invited to join the effort in raising money for Parley, in which all runners that wanted to participate would need to download the Runtastic app and join the “Run for the Oceans” group. For every kilometer ran, $1 dollar would be donated to the Parley Ocean Plastic Program (up to $1 million). At the time of this article, Adidas runners have so far raised over $100k for Parley. But it didn’t just end at the event. From now until July 8th runners can still run to raise money.

Running wasn’t the only thing participants were treated to. Throughout the entire event, runners were able to visit some of the interactive exhibits that included an up-close look to some of the organisms that live our oceans. Adidas process in taking Parleys recycled plastics and converting them into fabrics for their running shoes. At the end of the night, Adidas brought out Anderson Paak and the free nationals for a concert for the thousands that came out to run.

Other notable celebrities that came out to show their support for Adidas and Parley Ocean Plastics included Actor Scott Eastwood, Singer Jhene Aiko, and LA Sparks players Chelsea Gray and Nneka Ogwumike just to name a few. Adidas also launched a brand new limited-release running shoes, the UltraBOOST Parley and UltraBOOST X, both to signify the fragility of our oceans. Each shoe fuses performance-oriented technology with an energy-returning BOOST midsole and a primeknit upper that utilizes the Parley Ocean Plastic fabric which prevents about 11 plastic bottles from entering our oceans. Both shoes are now available on
