PS4 gets another battle royale when H1Z1 open beta hits May 22

H1Z1 open beta

The battle royale genre is huge right now, especially with games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds dominating the online multiplayer world. Today Daybreak has announced that its battle royale game, H1Z1, is going to be available on the PlayStation 4 as an Open Beta on May 22. This version will feature new weapons, new weapon progression system and revamped UI.

“H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem. We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee. “We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun — an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”

The gameplay has been simplified including the grab-and-go equipment system, loot collection, inventory management, and the introduction of the radial weapon menu for switching between guns and grenades. Additionally, there’s a revamped HUD and the crafting system has been removed.

The time limit has been reduced along with more airdrops to deliver a faster-paced, action-packed experience. And the primary way to get higher powered armor is through the airdrops. As they say, the higher the risk, the higher the reward.

Don’t worry, special crates will be spread across the map featuring level 2 and level 3 weapons and gear. And to find them, you’ll hear low radio chatter and see a signal beacon when you’re close.

If you want a head start, the Closed Beta weekend starts this month, and you can sign up at

From now until May 22nd, you can preorder the H1Z1 bundle for $29.99 featuring in-game cosmetic items and a dynamic theme. There’s a 20% preorder discount if you’re a PlayStation Plus member.
