‘Star Trek Discovery’ season two casts Anson Mount as Captain Pike

It looks like we have our Captain Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery!

Inhumans‘ actor Anson Mount has been cast as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise before Captain James T. Kirk came abroad. Fans of the original series will remember Captain Pike (played by Jeffrey Hunter) in the original 1966 Star Trek pilot episode ‘The Cage’, before it was picked up by CBS Studios with William Shatner as Captain Kirk. Captain Pike was also shown in the Star Trek reboot by J.J. Abrams, played by Bruce Greenwood.

At the end of the first season, the U.S.S. Discovery had been stopped by the U.S.S. Enterprise, having been hailed by Captain Pike. This season will also see the addition of Spock, who served as the first officer to Pike on the Enterprise.

Mount was previously in ABC’s Inhumans, which was not announced whether or not they would have been renewed. But, with the addition of Mount as Captain Pike, it’s safe to assume Inhumans will not continue. Production for the second season begins next week in Toronto.

Star Trek: Discovery returns this fall on CBS All-Access.
