Gemma Chan joins Captain Marvel cast as Minn-Erva

More Captain Marvel news!

Humans star Gemma Chan has been cast in Captain Marvel as the villain, Minn-Erva aka Doctor Minerva, a Kree geneticist and spy, according to Deadline. In the comic books, Minn-Erva comes to earth to find the exiled Kree Captain Mar-Vell in hopes to obtain his genetic code to benefit the Kree race. She is the enemy of Captain Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers.

The plot details are being kept secret, but we already know it will center around Danvers (Brie Larson), an Air Force pilot who had her DNA fused with an alien during a flight accident. As stated during Comic-Con, Captain Marvel will take place in the 90s, before all of the MCU films, with the Skrulls as the main villains.

Chan will join Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in the film. Mendelsohn is said to be in a villain role as well, so we see his character involved with Minn-erva.

Chan is best known for her work on the AMC/Channel4 series Humans, which will be in its third season this year. Chan will also be seen in this summer’s Crazy Rich Asians, based on Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novel. Later this year, she’ll be in Focus Features’ Mary Queen of Scots, alongside Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct the film. Geneva Robertson-Dworet has written the script, with previous drafts by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman.

Captain Marvel opens in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
