Be prepared for The Lion King live-action remake to omit a song

The Lion King

The classic Lion King animated film featured very catchy tunes like “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” However, the upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King won’t include all the songs from the original. Can you guess what it is from my hint in the headline and image used?

Musician Elton John teamed up with lyricist Tim Rice for The Lion King animated film, and they will be reunited again for the new live-action film. John has revealed to The Sun about how four of the songs from the original will be used.

“They need to have a new end credits song,” said John. “There’s going to be four of our songs in the film, from the original: ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’ ‘Hakuna Matata,’ ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,’ and ‘Circle of Life’. And then there will be an end, closing song, and we’ve been speaking to Beyoncé’s people and hopefully Tim and I and her can cook up something. That’s going out in 2019 as well. And it will be great to work with her. So we will see.”

As you can see, “Be Prepared” wasn’t mentioned, and that will definitely be a downer for some fans out there. It was a musical number sung by Jeremy Irons that allowed the villain, Scar, to shine. It wouldn’t feel the same if a villain doesn’t get his or her own song. Just look at Beauty and the Beast’s “Gaston” and The Little Mermaid’s “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”

Even though there will be many fans disappointed with the song being cut, at least we still have the original. Check it out below.

Fans who attended D23 Expo in 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center were treated to the opening sequence of the remake. I was fortunate enough to be there, and let me tell you, it’s simply breathtaking. The moment the sun rose with the iconic opening “Circle of Life” line, the audience roared with excitement.

The Lion King remake will hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
