Nike unveils the PG2 PlayStation colorway

NBA basketball player Paul George (Small Forward – Oklahoma City Thunder) has been in the league since 2010. He’s a pivotal player for any team he plays for, so much that in early 2017, Nike officially gave him his first signature shoe aptly named the PG1. Fast forward to one year later and Nike is set to release the second edition of Paul George’s’ signature shoe, the PG2.

But this one is hitting close to gamers’ hearts.

Paul George is an avid gamer who has an affinity for the PlayStation 4. In fact, he loves his PS4 so much that he collaborated with PlayStation to bring us his PlayStation-themed PG2 shoe. George worked closely with PlayStation to bring us a shoe that not only performs off and on the basketball court, but also showcases what he loves about the PS4.

Getting inspiration from the dual-shock controller and the iconic symbols, the shoe offers some very interesting details.

  • The tongues of the shoe sport the PG and PlayStation logos, which illuminate and pulsate blue just like when turning on the console
  • The back heel of the left shoe has a unique barcode that contains a PSN voucher code, which can be redeemed at PlayStation Store for a Paul George Dynamic Theme for your PS4
  • The colors of the sneaker pay homage to the buttons on the DualShock 4 controller
  • The iconic PlayStation symbols are embossed in patent leather on each shoe
  • The look of the PG Dynamic Theme is reflected in the sock liner on each shoe

The shoes have internal batteries that power up the logos. The batteries are not rechargeable or replaceable, but they do offer a charge of up to 150 hours. The midsole has Nike’s Zoom cushioning technology, which is complemented with a blue rubber outsole that glows in the dark. Tony Hardman, the designer of the PG1 and PG2, wanted to design a shoe that was comfortable to wear, all while respecting PlayStation’s intellectual property.

As an avid fan of sneakers, I’m very excited to see this collaboration between Nike and PlayStation. Usually, we see shoe companies collaborate with high-end fashion designers to bring us special edition shoes. So it’s great to see Nike think outside of the box and create shoes that even gamers would love.

The PG2 is set to be released on February 10th in limited quantities for $110. You can purchase them on Nike’s SNKR app or its website.
