The Star Trek: Discovery theme music pays homage to the original

CBS is getting us excited for Star Trek: Discovery by dropping new items for us to indulge in as we wait for the premiere in two weeks. CBS just recently released a video related to new theme music for the series.

Star Trek has long been known for, not only their iconic storylines and characters, but also, their music. From Alexander Courage’s original theme song to Jerry Goldsmith’s music for Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek: The Next Generation to Michael Giacchino’s score for the Star Trek reboots, the music has made the journey even more incredible.

It’s time for Star Trek: Discovery to receive their own fanfare with the Emmy-winning composer Jeff Russo to lead it. Russo, who recently won an Emmy for his work on FX’s Fargo, has worked on many hit television shows, such as Legion, Power, The Night Of, and Shameless. Now, he adds Star Trek: Discovery to his ever impressive resume.

In a video, released by Star Trek, we get a behind-the-scenes look at the process for the main title, Russo leads the 60-piece orchestra as they record the theme music. In the intro, you could hear a bit of Courage’s original piece mixed in there, which gives it a bit of history. It’s also great to see some Star Trek in the orchestra. I see you, Vulcan ears.
