The Chase’s Bradley Walsh rumored to be the next Doctor Who companion

British actor and host to the hit British game show The Chase, Bradley Walsh, has been rumored to be the next Doctor Who companion for the 13th Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. The Mirror released the story yesterday. It has not been confirmed or denied by BBC.

The 57-year-old actor had previously worked with new showrunner, Chris Chibnall, on ITV’s Law and Order UK, which ran for eight seasons. With their long history, Chibnall is known to use some of his previous actors in his new series. Whittaker was previously on Chibnall’s hit series Broadchurch, which featured another actors who famously played The Doctor – David Tennant.

If the rumor is true, Walsh is set to do double duty as the companion of the Doctor and still maintain his hosting gig with The Chase. According to a source to The Mirror, “But, crucially, it won’t affect his role as presenter of The Chase. He loves that show with a passion and so does the audience, so he’s delighted to have found a way to make it all work.”

Walsh was previously was a professional footballer, actor on Coronation Street, and recently, had a successful singing career.

Although Walsh may have had the credentials in acting, not many would agree with this decision, if true. The Walsh rumor received praise and backlash from social media, but has received one approval from a former companion of the Doctor – Matt Lucas aka Nardole.

The rumor follows a month after the reveal of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor. BBC has been on lock-down about their Doctor Who announcements and will probably have a big reveal for their new companion, as they did for Pearl Mackie. So, we’ll have to wait and see for their announcement.

Doctor Who returns this Christmas on BBC One and BBC America.
