Disney’s live-action Aladdin may have found its Jafar

News for Disney’s live-action Aladdin film has been coming left and right including Will Smith playing Genie, Naomi Scott playing Jasmine and Mena Massoud playing as the titular character. Now we have reports from the Tracking Board that Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari (The Mummy) is in negotiations to portray the evil Jafar.

Jafar is definitely one of the most sinister villains out there, and I can’t wait to see if they’re going to pull off the snake scene from the animated film. Just imagine Kenzari as Jafar saying, “A snake, am I? Perhaps you’d like to see how snake-like I can be!”

I’m also partial to Jafar in the Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular at Disneyland. Perhaps we’ll get a scene similar to the video below.

Audiences will get to see Kenzari’s performance in the upcoming Murder on the Orient Express film from director Kenneth Branagh, who’s also starring in that film. In addition, Kenzari can be seen in the future Netflix film What Happened to Monday, a sci-fi film about overpopulation.

That’s not the only casting news. Furthermore, Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) will be playing Jasmine’s friend, a handmaiden. She’s a new character just for the live-action film, most likely to add more of a dynamic for the princess. Pedrad can also be seen in shows like New Girl and Scream Queens and heard in films like Despicable Me 2 and The Lorax.

The film will be directed by Guy Ritchie (King Arthur) from a script by John August (Frankenweenie, Corpse Bride, Titan A.E.).

Aladdin will be a retelling of the classic 1992 animated film that featured one of the most beloved songs, “A Whole New World.” Here’s hoping we’ll get at least a thrilling version.
