Fantastic Beasts 2 has begun filming; details revealed

The sequel to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them have begun filming in the UK at the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden outside of London, where the Harry Potter films were shot. The yet-to-be-titled film sees the return of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he helps Dumbledore (Jude Law) battle against Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

Warner Bros. have released some details on the sequel, “Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander.”

The film will remain in the 1920s but will move from New York to London and will see the return of Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), and Jacob (Dan Fogler). Ezra Miller, who played Credence in the first film and fate was unknown, will be in the film as well.

New characters will be introduced, including Callum Turner as Newt’s brother Theseus Scamander. Zoe Kravitz, whose picture was seen in the first movie, will be seen in this film as Leta Lestrange. Other cast members include South Korean actress Claudia Kim will also have a role in the film as an attraction in a wizarding circus; William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama; Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, who runs the wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, who appears at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA).

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 was written by J.K. Rowling with David Yates returning to direct.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will be released on November 16, 2018.
