WARNING: Possible spoiler alert!

Last week, there were reports that Zendaya’s character was officially not Mary Jane Watson, but that her character was named Michelle with the last name Toomes. Some would recognize the last name as in relation to Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture. This would have been a marvelous twist to the film, but the rumor was based on the novelization of the film with some saying she was addressed as Michelle Toomes. But recently, both Tumblr and Reddit dedicated fan base have claimed to debunk this theory stating that her last name was never mentioned in the novelization of the film.

This also confirms what some of our own sources have revealed: she is, in fact, Michelle J. Watson aka Mary Jane Watson. This reveal adds up as we see her goth-emo-like character we saw in the trailers, possibly dealing with the death of her parents. The name change could be relative to her mom’s name Madeline or possibly just a nickname or surname she is uses in an act of rebellion. Either way, it seems the internet has debunked the theory that Zendaya isn’t just a random character named Michelle, but is Mary Jane Watson.
