Call of Duty Modern Warfare remastered may get standalone release

When Activision decided to remaster one of the best First Person Shooters ever released (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. This was the game that really kicked off modern-themed shooters for console and was an instant hit. Battlfield 2 was already out on PC, but their console counterpart Battlefield: Modern Combat wasn’t doing as well, despite its best efforts (it actually was a great game). Activision then decided to throw a curve ball stating you could only get it if you purchase Infinite Warfare.

It almost felt like a slap in the face, only because the CoD franchise has been somewhat tanking as of late (in my opinion). The sales for IW ended up being decent, but that was mostly due to everyone wanting to play MW. There has been an outcry by fans for some time now that Activision release Modern Warfare as a separate game and not packaged with anything else. Now it seems that they were listening, and was hiding an Ace up their sleeve.

According to CharlieIntel and PVPLive, both Amazon and GameFly have leaked info perpetuating the claim of an upcoming standalone release for Modern Warfare. The listing from the two retailers had Modern Warfare set to become available on June 20th for Playstation 4, and then a later release of July 20th for Xbox One. This is more than likely due to the exclusivity deal Activision now has with Sony. With E3 just around the corner, I think these leaks may have taken the steam out of what would have been a big announcement.

Either way, I’m still pretty excited that they are finally giving MW its own separate release. I spent countless hours playing multiplayer and can’t wait to do it again. Are you excited Modern Warfare will be available on its own? Let us know in the comments below.
