Blizzard finally reveals the latest Overwatch hero: Orisa

After seemingly weeks of speculating, Blizzard has finally revealed the next hero who’s joining the Overwatch roster. Internet and Overwatch fans, meet Orisa. She will be listed in the tank tier of the roster and has a 2-star difficulty rating. Here is the official character description from Blizzard’s site:

“Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier. She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.”

In addition, game director Jeff Kaplan gives us some insight into Orisa’s back story, abilities, and overall strategy. Check it out!

Here are some takeaways that we took from the video above:

  • Primary Fire: Fusion Driver
    • Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it
    • A projectile-based machine gun
    • Has good range and rate of fire
    • Has a very large clip
  • Alternate Fire: Halt!
    • Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion
    • Sends out a pulse and hit the alt-fire button again to bring in all affected enemies within its radius
    • Use it to position or reposition targets
    • Can pull people around corners
  • Fortify
    • Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects
    • Prevents crowd-control abilities ie. Pharah’s concussive blast
  • Protective Barrier
    • Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire
    • About the size of half of Winston’s protective bubble
    • Can be placed anywhere she targets it
  • Ultimate: Supercharger
    • Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight
    • Enemies can destroy Orisa’s ultimate ie. Symmetra’s Shield Barrier ultimate
  • Heroes are being adjusted to be more effective against barriers

Sadly, we don’t have any word on Doomfist coming or if Terry Crews is involved in it at all.

Orisa is now available to play in Overwatch’s PTR (Public Testing Region) but the official release date is TBD.
