NIS America press event 2017 part 1

Hey D00D! It’s still early in 2017, and that means a new year of games to look forward to, and NIS America is making sure that its fans are well stocked. The 2017 press event was bigger than previous years and we even got a few surprise announcements that no one in the crowd was expecting. Here’s the first half of a list of NIS America games that we will see in 2017.

Birthdays the Beginning

In the beginning there was nothing but land and simple organisms. Birthdays the Beginning hopes to convert that past into your experience. You will play god while trying to discover over 300 lifeforms across 3 modes of play. Your abilities to capture and evolve certain species will affect whether they flourish or fall to extinction in this sandbox-style game that is a mixture of sims and Minecraft.

Birthdays the Beginning will release on PS4 and Steam and is scheduled for May 9, 2017 (NA) and May 12, 2017 (EU).

Culdcept Revolt

Definitely one of the surprise announcements from the night is Culdcept Revolt, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a new release in the series on Nintendo 3DS. For those who have never played a Culdcept game, it combines the strategy and combat elements of card and board games. The amount of cards and variance on the boards will make every match feel unique with all the countless strategies that each player will be able to concoct. With its first entry into the handheld market, it will be easier than ever to pick up and play the campaign or compete with your friends online.

Culdcept Revolt will release on the 3DS and is scheduled for Summer 2017.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

It’s about time for a new killing game to begin, and Danganronpa V3: Killing harmony will be here to satiate that thirst for the fans. V3 is promising some new gameplay mechanics to shake things up for long time fans of the murder mystery adventure series. It will take place in a whole new setting with tons of puzzles to challenge the player. Danganronpa games have always had their own unique style of twists and turns, but now that the player will have the ability to lie and debate during conversations, it will definitely breathe new life into the Danganronpa saga.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony will release on PS4 and PS Vita and is scheduled for September 26, 2017, (NA) and September 29, 2017 (EU).

YS VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA

Speaking of breathing new life into a franchise, we have one of the biggest personal surprises of the night with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. This beloved action/RPG has been around for quite a while and was always shown from a top-down angle using sprites for the characters and monsters. However with Ys VIII that is no more. The camera has been pulled in and follows your fully 3D characters through all the action. The Ys franchise has always been a favorite of mine just based on the fast-paced action and its level of how frantic it can get at times. This Ys looks to be big for the franchise for long time fans and a great way to introduce Ys to a whole new audience.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA will release on PS4, PS Vita and Steam and is scheduled for an unspecified time in 2017.

Touhou Genso Wanderer

Another year without a dungeon crawler released by NIS America would be unheard of. Touhou Genso Wanderer gets the rogue-like dungeon crawler treatment this year and you will be able to play as your favorite Touhou companion while diving through randomly generated dungeons. It’s up to Reimu to explore the dungeons and uncover the source of Gensokyo’s latest incident and save them all from doomed future.

Touhou Genso: Wanderer will release on PS4 and PS Vita and is scheduled for March 21, 2017, (NA) and March 24, 2017 (EU).

God Wars: Future Past

Japan’s untold legends are about to come to life in God Wars: Future Past featuring a tale steeped in Japanese lore and tradition. This tactical RPG has visuals inspired by traditional Japanese watercolor and wood carving art. Build your army from 14 customizable characters and over 30 classes. Will you take the dual-wielding swordsmen, archers, or assassins? Maybe the classic samurai is more your style. Regardless of what you choose, only the most skilled tacticians will lead their army to victory.

God Wars: Future Past will release on PS4 and PS Vita and is scheduled for March 28, 2017, (NA) and March 31, 2017 (EU).

Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy

A new threat is imminent in Tokyo and it’s up to the Xth Squad to protect the city once again. Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy has the Xth squad rejoining after a time of peace following the resolution of the events in Operation Abyss. Babel has expanded on your customization options by expanding the Blood Code system to allow hybrid characters to give the player even more control on how they want to develop their team. Babel promises its dungeons to be the most challenging yet rewarding dungeons ever seen for the New Tokyo Legacy franchise.

Operation Babel: New Tokyo legacy will release on Steam and PS Vita and is scheduled for May 16, 2017 (NA) and March 19, 2017 (EU).

Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle

To give the players who want more of a fast-paced game in the Touhou universe, there is the 3D shoot’em up fighter Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle. Fight in these 3D battles as your favorite Touhou girl to reign supreme above all the rest, both locally and globally. This is also one of the Touhou games that will be supporting VR functionality, which is exciting for me personally, but only time will tell if it will add to the experience or just be a bonus feature you try once.

Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is scheduled to release Summer 2017 for the PS4 and PS Vita.

Touhou Double Focus

Aya and Momiji from the Touhou fame are taking an adventure into a picture book tale after finding a magical book that has merged the real world of Gensokyo with the universe in the book. Many of your friends have also been sucked into the book and it’s up to you to help them as you battle 2D platformer style across the many stories the book holds within. Each character has their own specialty, either close combat or long range, and will regain abilities as they adventure to uncover the mysteries of the world.

Touhou Double Focus will release on PS4 and PS Vita and is scheduled for March 21, 2017 (NA) and March 24, 2017 (EU).
