Dante Basco’s Hook prequel project starring Rufio now funded

Steven Spielberg’s Hook is a ’90s film that is dear and near to many, despite Spielberg’s own feelings about it. I was definitely one of those kids who enjoyed the movie immensely. The movie even inspired music producer Skrillex to create a song called “Bangarang.” Now we have Dante Basco, who portrayed the leader of the Lost Boys named Rufio in the film, helping to produce a short fan film called “Bangarang.” The aim of the project is for viewers to get a better understanding of who Rufio was before his adventures in Neverland.

The good news is that the project has been successfully funded on Kickstarter. Basco won’t be reprising the role of Rufio since he’s older now, but he’s attached as the executive producer. Jonah Feingold will be writing and directing. (He is also working on Peter Pan feature film project called Wendy starring Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow.)

Roofus is a 13-year-old kid who is destined to be more than he is. After his mother is forced to put him into a foster home, he and his rag-tag group of best friends – a Jamaican boy named Julani and a bright-eyed latina force of nature named Ella – find a way for Roofus to escape his ill fate, find his happy thought and fulfill his destiny.

And check out the “Bangarang” song by Skrillex below.
