Matt Reeves passes on directing ‘The Batman’ for Warner Bros

Poor DC.

While the Marvel Studios hit-making machine is steamrolling towards Avengers: Infinity War, Warner Bros isn’t having similar success. While their critical misses are well publicized, their inner struggles are just as publicized. Matt Reeves joins the growing list of people who have left the DCEU because The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that he has exited talks to direct The Batman. The studio, however, will be looking quickly at their next choice since “the studio is intent on making the movie no matter what as the Batman franchise has proven to bigger than one person.”

Prior to Reeves, Affleck stepped down from the director’s chair to avoid pulling double-duty as director and Batman. With Reeves leaving the negotiating table, Warner Bros might look to their other choices to direct the film. Those choices include the incomparable Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe). However, THR did say that negotiations could start up again once heads start to cool off.

The Batman is a latest DCEU film that is going through internal struggles. Recently, rumors broke out that star Ben Affleck is looking to get out of his Batman contract which is disastrous for the DCEU should the rumors turn out to be true. The Flash is another film that went through two directors (Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa) before hitting the reset button on the film’s script.

We’ll keep you updated on all Batman news as soon as they break.
