Blade of the Immortal live-action teaser trailer

Blade of the Immortal is a popular Japanese manga that follows the life of a samurai named Manji. In his quest for redemption of sins committed in a previous life, Manji must kill one thousand evil men. This mission is coupled with being cursed with sacred bloodworms that keep him alive; Manji cannot die. He can only perish by a rare poison that isn’t easily attainable. In the manga’s run, Manji encounters many interesting characters that not only want him dead (most fail) but also help him out in his mission.

The storyline for this manga is compelling and exciting which is why Warner Bros. has decided to create a live-action movie based on this manga. If you’re a fan of Blade of the Immortal, you should be excited about this. I’m extra excited about this since the anime adaption of this manga was bland at best.

The cast is star-studded with Japan’s finest actors in its industry. The main character of Manji will be played by Japanese superstar Kimura Takuya, who is part of the globally known Japanese band “SMAP”. He’s also joined by Chiaki Kuriyama, known by American audiences as Go-Go Yubari from the first Kill Bill movie by Quentin Tarantino. With these two already in the cast, this movie looks like it’s shaping up to be a pretty damned good live-action iteration.

Blade of the Immortal is currently joining the ranks of recent Japanese animation stories being translated to the big screen. They’ve already released a Rurouni Kenshin movie, Attack on Titan, and are already following both these up with a live-action Full Metal Alchemist movie as well. This shows that Japan is currently on the roll for releasing popular past and present series with a live cast treatment.

With so many different mangas and animes and mangas coming to life, it’s not that uncommon that the movies could falter and not live up to the hype. I would state that even if you’re a fan of a popular series, sometimes what makes the series popular is because of the fact that there are several episodes that are shown to create character development. Sometimes the script can’t project that properly on the screen and you’re left with side characters that you don’t care much for. Or the movie could just down right stink. Yes that’s right, I’m looking at you, Dragonball Evolution.

With that out of the way, take a look at the Blade of the Immortal teaser trailer below!
